let them total it, then buy it back for less. this way you have money to dump into it and fix it up.

you need to remember there could be a fried wire somewhere still, not just the sensors and/or the brains of the car.

you need a ohm meter and figure out how to use it. best way to find bad wires.
 


I have a mulitmeter and have used it to check the data line between the DIC and OBD port just for giggles. We didn't want to go through the trouble associated with having a totaled car. At this point it is probably a little late to let them total it anyways.

A SHORTED/FRIED module will knock out the DIC. Disconnecting the module MAY restore bus communication as well.
 
everything with a circuit board in this car is fried....i had an armada took a direct hit...it even fried each fuel injector

That's pretty crazy. It didn't hurt my radio which surprised me. It did take out my passenger side blend door actuator but not the driver side.
 


I tried it without the EBCM connected and the DIC still didn't work, I tried both of the ones I have. So either both are fried or there is some other issue.
 
So after some further investigation, it turns out the PCM from an 02 is different than one from a 99. I put an 02 PCM in my car. I'm sure you guys are going to say, "duh" lol. Good thing I paid to have that PCM tuned as well.... Ugh
 
if you had it tuned was it flashed with your year file on it, if so its all good.


i got a 01 pcm on my 98 regal. but the bins been changed to my cars file.

Really? They are different part numbers though and from what I am seeing they have different pin outs as well. On the O'Reilly auto site they have PCMs that need to be tuned but the 02 and 99 are different part numbers.
 
the pcm is a different part number, but as long as its been flashed to your year its fine. pin outs are all the same 97-03.

theres a list of compatible pcms. you cant just use any one but if the one your using is with in your group of years it works.
 
I got the PCM from the junkyard. It came from an 02 Grand Prix, I believe it was a GT. Do you have a link to the list you speak of?
 


Oh I misread that you said tuned PCM. I took a PCM from a 2002 Grand Prix and then had the back up of my old tune flashed back onto that PCM.
 
Oh yeah, I think the stealership told me that also now that you mention it. Ugh, that makes it harder to figure this out.

Since my PCM couldn't communicate with the EBCM, I went to the junkyard and picked up another. With the replacement EBCM I have the same issue.

As of right now there are 3 different modules in my car that I know of that cannot communicate with the PCM through the data link communications. These three modules are the DIC, EBCM, and the CJ2 climate control module. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what the problem may be?
