lighter coil pack bracket?

Does anybody make them that is lighter than stock? These things are like 50 lbs by themselves, it is rediculous.

some people relocate them to different locations...and completely eliminate the bracket all together.

here is a pic of Scott Cooks:

some people have it by the radiator, others the cowl. BUT, if you want to make it lighter...you could get the drill out.... or just make a smaller bracket...

I dont know of anyone off hand that make them...most people make it out of their garage.

thats what I figured, sweet I get to fabricate and be a manly man (grunts like tim allen on home improvement) Where do you get the longer spark plug wires, or did you make them? When I do my fenderwell intake I will have a good place behind the drivers side headlight.

if you can squeeze it over there....lol

most people buy the "make your own wire kits"....it is easy to do.

I am sure there is someone on here that has done it and can give you a few pointers.....

Im going to point out a couple things and well you guys just run with it. I havent done this so Im speaking from an entirely observational point of view.

1. I believe the brackets from the Bonneville can be used in the Grand Prix with some minor modification. Ron Vogel has done this I know of so he may be better to get info from with regards to that.

2. That ICM (Ignition Control Module) gets pretty darn warm on its own. I would have concerns that it could dissipate the necessary heat being bolted to the fenderwell like that, but then again, the stock bracket is pretty darn thick and it certainly isnt going to dissipate a lot of heat through that either, so who knows.

3. I would also be concerned with room over there. That picture is got some wild thigns going on. Intake on that side, battery is gone and Im not sure what the blue line is that is there. So I would wonder if there would be enough room there to do this with the battery. And then there is the question if the existing wiring would need to be extended any. Just some thoughts.

Thats just my observations, take 'em for what they are worth.

This can be done. I had it done to my car at one time. Thing is you end up losing a dog bone mount on the passenger side. I had no prob with it when I had just a little power. However after I thru some more power to the car I ended up braking the drivers side dogbone mount. I broke the aluminum bracket that bolts to the head, this it the part the dogbone bolts to. I ended up going back to stock.

I think I saw a pic where Ron moved his to the rad support, between the motor and the fans.

Yeah, thats where Rons are the last time I seen pics of his car. I do think one could be made up out of some L bracket aluminum, I havent looked at it that closely. I dont 'think' it would be that hard, but someone like Farnsworth would probably be a better person to speak to about that.

Anyone know how much the OEM bracket weighs?

bonneville coil pack bracket, it is a whole new setup for the belt tensioner and coil pack, you will also loose your passenger side engine mount or if your and handy with modding stuff you can make a L36 one work.

I persnally am using an L36 bracket on mine, with a custom engine mount on top. The L36 bracket I changed to put the tensioner in a little different spot than stock. I did it the hard way, so it can be bolted to the stock location, and so the bars are more parallel than just bolting it right to the head. The easiest way to do it, is simply welding a bracket to the rad support, and bolting the heim to the head with a spacer. It probably saves 5-7#'s on the upper mounts, and 10 or so from changing the tensioner bracket.

If I was to weld brackets to the rad support for both upper mounts, wouldnt I still need to find some way to mount the tensioner for the SC?

ron, is there any way to get a picture of your setup, i am have a hard time envisioning it in my head.

Where did you get that red mount that holds the hood latch on? that is cool I bet it brings in a lot more cool air. I want to do this for my 04.

I cut and welded the stock one. Since I don't have a bumper support on the front, it helps hold up the bumper cover. It's not done yet, I have 2 tabs on it that I put there to put addtional reinforcent bars on.

I get too much air to the rad, I have cardboard in front of the rad for winter, and even on 50-60 degree days can't get the motor above 170 in stop and go traffic.
