lifter install?

So i got my new oem Ls7 lifters in today due to a very slight ticking sound coming from my motor before i started tearing it down for my top swap. I thought it was most likely a bad lifter. Ive been trying to figure out how exactly do i install these...I was reading that lifters need to be pre-loaded when they get installed? Or do i just drop them in and crank the motor to TDC and properly torque my new 1.9 roller rockers? Should I soak them in oil prior to install? I watched the video Dubob made and there wasn't much detail on the lifter installation and I want to make sure I do this the right way. Thanks in advance.

I have never done any of the above.

I will advise you to soak them in motor oil before you put them in. Otherwise just drop them in. That is if your using non adjustable rockers.

I haven't read anything on pre-loading these oem hydraulic lifters, im wondering if that was only for the other style lifters such as the hydraulic flat tappets, solid flat tappets, and solid rollers.

You are correct. Since there is no need for adjustment there is no need tfor adjusting the preload. Since it's already set.

I'd probably soak the lifters overnight in motor oil if I were you. At least thats the proper procedure for flat tappet lifters, not sure on rollers.

Some engine builders even recommend soaking the lifters in oil and one by one depressing the plunger so the lifters fill up easier.

Guys, this topic is almost 3 months old.

explokid, what info are you looking for? The stock rockers and most of the aftermarket rockers aren't adjustable, so without a lot more work, you don't know how much preload you have.

I was wondering if when these were put in, if it changed the factory recommended preload. EX: you had to turns them 2 turns past vs. the factory spec of 1/2-1.5.

The rocker arms are not adjustable. So you can not adjust any preload on the valvetrain at all. Just drop everything in and go.

wow, brought back from the dead. I soaked my lifters in mobile 1 for a week, while i was waiting for some misc parts. I just dropped them in, put the lifter guides back in, washed down the valley, bolted the lim, torqued down the rockers, and that was really it.
