Left Rear Locks up When in Drive But Not in Reverse. Why?

Modded for Maximum Slow
So I have been using my moms car (2001 Intregue) for the past 2 days and today while I was leaving a parking lot the left rear was locked up. I had the ebrake on prior to this. I noticed that only when I'm rolling forward it will roll for a bit and then lock up but in reverse I can drive all day and it won't lock up. I thought maybe it was like the old 4WD where you had to go in reverse for a while to disengage it but that hasn't worked. I go about 10ft or so and it locks up. Only the left rear does this. Anyone know why? I need the car for the rest of the week and to get home tonight so help is appreciated.

My sister's old FWD Park Ave did this. Turns out everything on the right side was rusted to all hell. Banging on the drum would free it up for a few minutes, but it'd lock again.

Ended up replacing both rear assemblies with parts for the junkyard and problem solved.

So, check and look for rust, or any visible damage.

I think my dad said something about the wheel bearing was bad and I heard it growling this morning. Just glad this didn't happen when I was doing 70 on the highway last night or this morning on the way to the college with all the snow.

Lol. I'm just going to bum a ride from a friend and let it sit in the lot and have my dad drive an hour and deal with it.

Just pull the tire and spray the parking brake down with wd40 and spray the parking brake cable too. Try working it back and forth and you might get lucky with it.

This morning I had it towed to a shop in town. The tow truck came and you wouldn't belive what happened. The wheel actually turned. WTF. Anyway they are just going to look at it and replace some stuff I guess.
