LED install gone wrong :(

Went to install my new LED bulbs, purchased from Diode dynamics. Have to say, what excellent bulbs they are! Very bright and worth every penny. My 2002 GTP has the sunroof option, so I don't have the overhead console. I just have the two map lights and the sunroof switch. Well I took my flathead and gently pulled down on the cover, releasing the clips. I put the lights in, everything went easy. When I went to reinstall the cover, I noticed that there is a plastic ring inside the headliner that has the slots for the clips to engage.

The problem is, this plastic ring is just flopping around inside the headliner now. Whenever I try to push up on the cover, this ring moves and I cant engage the clips to hold it in place. I pulled the ring out, and I see one spot on the ring that faces the windshield where there is evidence of some kind of glue, looks like gorilla glue. But I dont see any other provisions to hold this thing in place up there.

So my question is, what holds this ring down other than that glue? Should I just re-glue it in place and forget about it? It's hard to get much room up there, so I'm not sure how to go about this... any insight you guys can offer is much appreciated! :)

I used 3M when I changed my sunroof for the first time. It holds nicely after reinstalling and allows for some give when taking apart if needed later

I'm not sure adhesive tape will have a strong enough hold for this application, I have to give quite the push to engage these clips. But hey, I could give it a shot. Anyone else have any ideas? Maybe some kind of epoxy or gorilla glue?

Oh no my bad. I should've specified. I used 3M weatherstrip adhesive. Its black and gooey but take your time with it and holds proper and is easy to work with. I left my car in the garage for a whole day after I put it on because that stuff is nasty if its left in the sun. I really like the way it held and allows some flexibility so it won't vibrate out.

Oh okay! I'll pick up a tube from the hardware store and give it a shot. I have some 3M weatherstrip adhesive, but its yellow hi-tack. I believe the mechanic jargon is "gorilla snot" haha. Does this have the strength I'm looking for? I'm not clear on the difference between yellow and black, other than the yellow stuff is REALLY sticky!
