Leather conditioner

So, I was just doing the interior of my 04 and got to the backseat headrests. I noticed the tops,in the back window, were feeling pretty hard and raw. I soaked the crap out of them, but I'm still wondering if there is a kick booty cream or condioner oil available that might soften them up. The rest of the interior is OK.

Just thinking GPF would have some advice. I'm thinking I might go with some Leatherique rejuvenator oil.
 


I have tried several different things on a car I had like that. You can't get them back, but can help keep it from getting worse. I assume you don't have window tint?

I have 35% tint, not great for a back window in a black car.
I clean/condition the leather fairly frequently. I need something that is going soak in more than a Mothers or Meguiars product I have been using.

Will Lexol kinda restore the leather?
I am only concerned about the top of the backseat headrests.

I have tried half a bottle of each of these, Lexol cleaner and conditioner,Armor all,Voodoo, Meguires gold class rich leather,the only one that worked slightly good was Mothers reflections. Let us know if you find something that works. I remember as a kid using mink oil on my leather work boots worked really good, might have to look into that.
 
Lexol here. Usually I clean the seats. Then let the conditioner soak on the seats for a few days then wipe it off.

Thats the choice been there done that list.
Yeah, I've used Reflections too, but can never find it in stores. It's still my fave.
I have never used Lexol but for a couple bucks, what the hell, may as well give it a go.
I know what ever I get to penetrate...is going to take many repeated applications. That doesn't sound right.
 
When I was 18 I had an old 79 Mustang that had sat in a field for several decades. Headrests and dash panels were hard and the dash had actually cracked in the middle. I took mink oil and rubbed it into the leather and parked it in the garage. After a couple days there was a little difference but not much in the headrests and on the dash panel, so I lathered up a couple shop rags and laid them across the headrests and across the dash and left it overnight. The leather soaked it all up and got softer day by day. After about a week there was a good difference in them. Took alot of care over several weeks but I got them back to nice soft feel, nothing like they would have been new but didn't feel like they were about to break apart every time you touched them.
 
I guess I'll have to use the leather work boot theory. I always take care of my work boots,Red wings,Timberland,Vasque and the only thing that really ever dried them out and crack was salt in winter.

I am definately treating those spots every time I clean my car, which is quite frequently.
 
I liked Mothers Reflections, and Lexol Like mentioned above.. Both worked great for me

Madison is pretty nice, I transplanted from Green Bay, with a band that never went anywhere, years ago.
Hip city with a crap load of entertainment.
 


I haven't had good luck with Lexol, nor any of the armor all or Meguiars products.

I am currently using Home Page | Leatherique Restoration Products

The rejuvenator oil is really thick and with heat and the time to soak in the seats it does soften them up. It requires more than one treatment but I've seen more results from it than anything else I've tried. I've also bought some neatsfoot oil, but haven't gave it a shot to soak in yet. Leatherique is expensive, yes, but if you buy the small 8oz? bottles or whatever it is from ebay its like 25 or 30 bucks.

$30...OUCH...expensive oil, just as much as that sex grease I bought.

Friend of mine uses that on his car.. Honestly, I haven't ever seen much of a difference between the 3.. My car has no tint, and bakes in this tropical Minnesota weather every day :th_biggrin2:


Only difference , he has alot of money, and I really don't ;)
 
Maybe we need to look outside the cow hide box . Since our seats aren't really leather and are some kind of vinyl. Maybe that's why we are having issues with leather conditioners.

yeahhhh ever since i had my first gp and the seats were baked to a very hard plastic (almost like abs plastic LOL) it's been my dedication to keep this car having somewhat nice seats. which since Austin has me a set of 04+ seats i've lost some cares. but i still like to have nice seats to sit on.

actually if you look at leatheriques website, it's for vinyl as well. to my understanding what we have IS leather, it's just a very poor quality leather.
 


My last Harley I had came with factory leather saddle bags. So Harley throws in a tub of there leather conditioner. The main ingredient is bees wax. It might be worth a shot.

thing is... it's not hard to KEEP it conditioned. many products can do that. i think what we're searching for is something to REVERSE the damage. and that's hard to do.
 
cool I got my answer.....i'll just keep pouring the...... stuff ON......today I used some Meguiars rich leatherand Mothers VLR + some Wilsons TLC......next is some bacon grease........stay tuned
