• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Welp... We're all immigrants in one way or another.. You gotta learn English somewhere... Can't expect everyone to know it right of the bat.

some legal, most illegal, blah

Countries I've been to where I butchered their language and they helped me in broken English...Honduras, Germany, France, Italy, Mexico.

Funny because it is true, when I went to costa rica everybody "spoke" english, from san jose all the way to jaco. They might not know the word "green pepper" but you can have a decent conversation with them.

Actually, there are lots of countries that teach English as a second language. Some have a requirement in the schools. A few exchange students from Germany, Italy, and Azerbaijan are a few examples.

Its not to say america doesnt teach languages in school, its just how fking many do you have to know.

I always wish that I'd have learned German. Even talking a normal sentence, you raise your voice just a little and you sound angry. LOL

I smile and point in any language....I think thank you translates pretty good.
Ooops is another good one.......but an attitude translates too

An ability to communicate fluently with the local people, and a reasonable knowledge of available products is required for any sales job. At least to do the job well. Sometimes that isn't important.

fvck that... you want to live here learn the fvcking language or get out. bad enough my tax money pays for their as$

If you are living in a foreign country, learn and try to speak the native language.

If you are visiting a foreign country, enjoy your visit.

Common sense tells me that if one was in a foreign country for any reason, one would want to be able to communicate to some degree.

The fact that so many come to my country and refuse to even attempt to learn English, well, that pisses me off. And some even get upset at me because I can't communicate with them. How does that make any sense?

I don't understand why a lot of you are hating on the OP. If you are gonna work or run a business in a pre-dominantly English speaking state, county, or city, you will have to learn English. I would get mad too if I couldn't understand anything he was saying. Most of you would too. Otherwise find a different job where you don't deal with people.

Yes you made an attempt at the language first, but if you walk into a market in Kaiserslauttern Germany and without effort you start speaking in English they will ignore you. It has been my experience from growing up in CA that there are a lot of people who come here and do not even make an effort. There are those that do, my great grand parents refused to teach my grand parents or parents Gaelic or Norwegian because it was not the language spoken here.

Now to the OP, while I get the frustration, what was your demeanor towards the attendant?
