Last few days of hell...

So I got in an accident on Wednesday because some people are idiots. Driving on the middle lane of the highway an asshat behind me was weaving recklessly in and out of traffic while it was raining. He proceeded into the right lane beside me. A car was ahead of him in that lane and he decided to be a jackass and come into my lane where he would have hit the top of my passenger door to the front of the car. I quickly looked in my mirror and back to make sure it was clear and didn't see the truck in my blind spot. Truck hit my rear putting the rear of the car into a spin, spun across two lanes of traffic and into the guard rail. Asshole cutting me off didn't stop and I ended up getting cited. The truck I ended up hitting had no damage and even verified that the guy was driving like an idiot, especially in the rain.

Here's the damage:

IMO 3-4k ain't gonna be enough for a good job ie. No filler, new panels, welding and paint... Hope the asshats insurance triples.

I wish that was the case, but he ran and I got cited so if my appeal in court doesn't pan out my insurance goes up. He got away free and clear. The doors aren't dented they just need repainted. it's the bumper covers, fender, lights and the quarter panel.

The other problem, because I still owe on the car, if they total it I don't get a penny of the settlement...

But you could buy it off the insurance company and fix it and keep driving it.

Hey guys just wanted to send out an update on everything, the estimates came back from the insurance company and it looks like they're gonna fix it. It's at the body shop now getting re-estimated a little bit by the guy I'm working with at the shop to help cover anything the original estimates missed so hopefully it'll work out well. Should be meeting with him on friday to discuss the new estimates and everything.

Also in case those of you wondering about the back 1/4 panel. Looks like their gonna replace and reweld the entire panel from the a pillar back, or at least part of it so I know everything is being done right.

Just thought I'd give an update and say she should live on barring any further complications.

I too am glad you are ok. I have seen first hand what a guard rail can do to a van at 70mph and personally what 40mph can do once hitting a concrete barrier. That is pretty scary. I'm happy to see that the GP will be almost new again. Looking forward to seeing what the work looks like.

They paid 4k to fix it. Updating everyone to let you all know it's been at the body shop for a few weeks now being worked on by some great guys. Car has since been put back together and has a layer of primer on it preparing for paint. Also I am fighting the ticket and will be in court to talk to the prosecutor on the 27th about dropping the citation to a no point violation because of my pristine driving record.

We shall start with the 1/4 panel, they cut away the damaged part of the 1/4 and found that the frame underneath was completely fine and had not been bent in more then the tiniest bit.

Next come the doors, not much damage to them besides paint and small dings where the guard rail hit.

And finally the fender, gotta love gm paper thin fenders looked worse than it was. The frame underneath was undamaged besides the dent at the very front.

And finally the part they shipped in to weld in the 1/4.

Glad to hear everything is working out on the car. Keep us updated and good luck with the court, appeals can be rough.

Call the witness and tell him there's $100 in it for him if he shows up to the court date.
