l67 GTP issue

So i picked up a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP 2 door yesterday. It was owned by a reputuable shops wife its whole entire life, so it is a single owner car which always had all its regular maintence done at the shop. The car has 100k on it, and it did sit all winter without being drove only thing wrong with it is it leaked a couple drops of oil so i replaced the oil sensor switch and that didnt help well anyways. I went to start the car today and it wouldnt start, acted like the battery was dead. So i jumped it and it started.....running it sounds almost similar to rods knocking :th_lipssealed1: I had not beat on the call at all since i have had it which has been barely over a day now. As it was running with the knocking sound i was turning the bolt on the battery to see if maybe the alternator was bad and the car shut off like thats what it was... well i went to jump it again and now the car just clicks....

now I have read that harmonic balancers can sound like rod knock and it does sound alot louder on the side of the motor with the harmonic balancer so im praying its one of them pulleys that are bad and not rod knocking...

Its to dark now to **** with but i was wondering whats your guys 2 cents on this ordeal? Do you think its rod knock? or could it possible be something else, i hear these engines are bullet proof and i didnt beat on it whats so ever and it looks to me that they always took good care of the car. When i did first purchase the car tho it made this same sound when u first start it up but only for a couple seconds its kind of a knocking sound with a squeel in it.

So what should I check ? i mean i checked the oil its about half a quart low but there is no metel flakes or anything in it like its rods.

any input would really help me

thanks in advanced.

well a bad sc coupler would sound like a a buncha rocks and couplers go bad offten they just wear out 1699 at autozone and 1100 for the sc oil at gm dealer

Ok so heres what iv done so far.
- removed all belts... still making the noise so it not any of the pulleys or the Supercharger
- removed both valve covers hoping maybe it was a rocker arm or valve ****ed up... no luck
- checked the dip stick there are some metal flakes on it
- had a buddy come over that works at a shop and he seems to think that to him it sounds like a lifter is stuck because its not a constant knocking sound like it would be if it was rods

waiting on another mechanic to stop by sometime this week to get a second opinion before i go check the lifters

Any other ideas? and ill take a video of the sound tomorrow as well...

yeah I pulled the oil pan and the bearings were done im guessing someone ran it out of oil.
I ended up dropping the engine out with the subframe (pain in the ass) especially when i didnt have a lift or anything i just droped it out tires and all ended up using a cherry picker to pick the car up off the motor. Replaced the bearings and the cranks rods were fine and no scaring or anything put it all back in, in about a day got a few more things to hook up tomorrow but other then that i hope it starts right back up no issues, it is my first time every working on anything other then a 4 banger lol. GM sure didnt make this easy, iv put engines in a turboed eclipse a s10 and my h22 hatch before but dam was this a real pain in the ass lol
