L36 builds

Finally a decent answer ty....Realisticly is building any gp cost effective?
Its all fun right and seeing what we can get out of the sporty family car No? Honestly who wouldnt be ok with high 12's low 13's all motor Regardless the price "YOU" pay its about what you want.Seems everyone has the same ideas when it comes to modifying these cars.Just thought we could throw in a little flavor :th_thumbsup-wink:

If you want to be n/a and go fast buy a car with an engine that can be built cheaply (SBC) and doesnt sound like ass (SBC).

I wonder if RWD would help your quarter mile time.

When I was NA I had the following (among other mods):

GT1 cam
p&p heads
.045" head gaskets
HV3
ZZP t/b
TOG headers into 2.5" exhaust/no cat or res

those were the main things that I had done to my Monte. I couldn't get out of the 14's but I believe that was due to poor traction on crappy street tires (it would chirp the tires shifting into 2nd gear). My best run was a 14.4@95mph. My best dyno was 222whp.

That's when I went with a CSC and never looked back :D

Have one being built right now! Thats what has limited me to playing with the gp....
Zipper were you tuned?
and how much does the monte weigh?
Idk i think with an hv3,cam,good tune and some better 60's the gp would see 13's...

I was tuned by ZZP (and dynoed there as well). The Monte with me in it weighed 3480lbs, and my best 60' was a 2.19. I thought for sure that I was going to see 13's too, but even that is too slow now. NA builds just cost too much.

Yeah they do!
Dr's would help alote.I know with just the lil stuff i done i spun my best 60 at 2.2. And yeah 13's arent much for bragn these days prolly bc a majority of sports cars are running that stock.I have alote of buddies that do nothing but LS1 swaps in beamers,cressida,240's,even a f**kn solstice...lol if it sounds good they do it

In the end it all depends on what you want to do. Some people like the fact that their motor is N/A. With a Cam & new springs, headers(or PLOG & Downpipe), HV3, ported TB, nice tires and a good tune you could probably run mid to low 14's easily. Minor weight reduction wouldn't hurt either.

I'm keeping my car N/A but I doubt I'll ever make it to the track..

Blower whine trumps the sound of the 3800 unfortunately.

Even with stock exhaust its not the greatest sound.

The quieter you make the exhaust the better it will sound though.

IMO the 3800 sounds decent inside the car. Behind it though... bleh.

Love the blower sound too though, they both sound good to me

This 3800 n/a car made 271rwhp, even though it is in an f-body.

So...he had a set of high comp pistons, a custom cam, and custom heads...and a custom tune...since those were really the only power adders there. Also....he had all those intake mods with no flow mods? Fail.

So......... you're saying........ he spent........... lots of money........ to make......... the same power as........ a stock LS1........ fail.

As for exhaust flow mods he is using custom long-tube headers, stepped 1.5"-1.625" primaries, 2 1/4" collector.
Just saying it can be done, but being able to get it done cheaply is depending on what you want to get out of an N/A build.
Plus if everyone could afford an LS1 car i think we all would have one instead of what we have now.:th_thumbsup-wink:

I could have bought a C5 Z06 for the money I've put into my car...but mine is faster.

So...no...not everyone wants an LS1...it's about as a common platform as a B18 swapped Honda...boring. Plus...built 3800 F-Bodies are worlds faster than FWD Wbody's that are N/A...RWD, Manual...weight...etc. And a cheap N/A build to me would be a Top Swap...hence not being N/A and slow.

Question. Why would you rather have a Grand Prix instead of a Z06?? Even if it's faster NOW, it's a Grand Prix!

I'm just curious as to why you would prefer it.. if it's because you need a 4-door then okay. Otherwise I'm confused haha

Well...I thought this explained it pretty well...

I could have bought a C5 Z06 for the money I've put into my car...but mine is faster.

Meaning...present to past tense. All the money I have put into my car as of NOW...I could have saved for the past few years and bought a C5 Z06...only issue is...I probably wouldn't have the Cobalt...and you can't DD a Z06. At least...I wouldn't.
