The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.
Stock for stock, there's no question the LS4 is more powerful/quicker. However, once you throw on the handful of initial bolt-ons, modding an LS4 becomes harder/more expensive than an L32/L67. Couple that with the fact that GXP trannies have a hard time holding up to even the stock power, much less a modded LS4, and a lot of people end up preferring to stick with the L67. And modding is kinda' important to a car enthusiast community. If there were no mods for these motors, there would BE no GP/w-body community. But Matt's right. No 3800 sounds good. I've heard time and time again "that's not true, mine sounds alright/pretty good/awesome" over the last 10 years only to realize after hearing them that the owners are delusional, or have no clue what "sounds good" means.
What do you have against us? It seems like you're looking for reasons to attack 3800's lol. I got one cause they're cheap, easy to mod/maintain. I do love the seats, sound, and the style is pretty good. 3800's are better for modding no doubt.
L67 is way cheaper to Mod and it doesnt take to much to beat an LS4.
For us car enthusiasts, Modding is the name of the game. Modding a 3800 is extremely cheap compared to other fields, and these 3800 engines are stout. With the correct setup, these cars can really move. Especially for a 4-door Grocery Getter.
Both the GXP and GTP's/GT's have the same trans, a few internals are the different, and both can die on stock power levels.
The GXP may have around 50-60 BHP more than a GTP, but the whole car weighs more and thats why they are pretty much even.
And GXP's will toast a trans faster because the Ls4 block is aluminum which transfers all its heat to the trans and kills it, so some modding is needed to help prevent it.
One thing I noticed when I test drove a GXP was they have a TON of torque steer, or at least the one I drove did. I know they have more torque than an L67 or L32, but I didn't think that 40 ish more torque would make that big of a difference. I can get on my car and I have pretty much 0 torque steer but getting on a GXP you have to kind of hang onto the wheel and hope that it stays on the road
That said, I do want to mod my car because I know it's cheap to do and will make good power, but I also want a GXP because it sounds so much better and it is faster stock... and GXP seats.
I'm not attacking. Just tryin to keep the debate going. It looks like I'm the only v8 guy here so I have to represent. But trust me, if I didn't drive a gxp I would have a 3800.
I've had both a 3.8 and currently own a gxp. Compared to my 3.8 I had both power, looks, and interior I love my gxp way better. But keeping that in mind I wish I hadn't sold my gt cause with the money I'm putting into my gxp I could have done a full top swap and all.
