KR?

A search of KR yields far too much....I gather from these posts KR is knock. I've been asked if I know what my KR is... nope. But I would like too. Is there an app, and I plug my phone into the OBD port. (w/proper cord of course). I've been wrenching for years but the computer stuff throws a wrench in my cogs. A post I skimmed mentioned an app but if I'm wrong just let that 1 go :). Time to school the new guy on the basics, and don't forget the obvious outcome (to much knock is most likely...) THX

Correct, KR is knock, which is bad in an S/C application (can lead to chipped pistons, etc..) There is the "Torque App" for the Andriod phones and also the Aeroforce Interceptor guage that will monitor KR (knock retard) as well as other parameters.

Stock car will have knock with the supercharger heating the air on intake. The PCM retards the knock to preserve the engine by changing timing/fuel. Combating knock is necessary to obtain max efficiency/HP when modding because you are pushing things beyond their designed limit/tolerances. Without modding, by keeping all your maintenance up to date, fluids, plugs, wires, etc., should keep things ok. With modding it becomes more critical to monitor and address if it is present, doing as much as possible to lower it.
Without a large investment you can get a Bluetooth OBDII reader on eBay and use an android app called torque to see everything the PCM see's (monitors) and know what's going on. About $30 total.

if you have a droid phone, buy a elm123 advanced bluetooth obd2 reader, then buy the torque app, it reads, clears codes, and shows more live data then you'll know what to do with.

the obd2 scanner http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ELM327-V...r-Auto-Diagnostic-Scan-Tool-New-/321329633353 it comes with a mini disk that you should be able to load onto a lap top and do the same, if the lap top has blue tooth.

im bone stock, and im seeing KR up to 7.8* and smaller spikes at part throttle. like 2.8 at 1/4 to 1/2 throttle.

The Torque app can also be used on BlackBerry 10 devices as well. Think of the app as extra gauges you currently don't have.

Yeah, I have an Android phone dedicated to only Torque and every time I drive I make sure it is connected to scan for KR, especially since I am modded now. It's enough to see that you're knocking, but not like HPTuners or Aeroforce where it gives you super precise parameter measurements with fast update rates.

bummer, we just bought I-phone 5's. Maybe they'll come out with an app soon. I'd really like to moniter KR and boost, (accurately) the other gauges are just a bonus. Some of these threads mention getting the computer re done....is it worth it on a factory setup to control KR? Can you achieve more boost because it doesn't need to be bled off?

I've been waiting for a while. I wonder if I could get in contact with the torque people and put it on the iphone

Won't ever happen. Apple's Bluetooth protocol is heavily locked down. Even some headsets have a hard time connecting to it. I believe it supports audio streaming and that's it.

Go on eBay and buy a Samsung GS3 or something. Should be decently cheap and would have enough processing power for your needs.

And this thing. Absolutely awesome. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007FHX9OK/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

great info, how bout' the computer tune stuff?

I'm currently using AutoTap with my laptop. I have the AT123 version with the extended parameter option. Real time logging, and "real time" display (slight lag sometimes) of 181 parameters for my 2005. Can't do any tuning with it, but boy is it nice to have a table/graph/gauge of side-by-side data to see exactly where something is happening.
