• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

KR Situation

4th has a super high load, so that is understandable.

rolling into second shouldnt cause knock if your tune is in check.

Solved.

So tonite I swapped the ICM and that made no difference. Then I tried the stock tune and there was very little knock.

So I can either install a cat and run the stock PCM, or revise the other tune.

Unless I am doing something wrong.

I didn't read all the way thru all the other replies but after also having some weird unexpected KR & my Car just kinda feelin' off I also leaned towards a possible Ignition Control Module issue. After my engine swap after my 1st crapped out lower end :D I have a bunch of spare parts I took home from the shop from the 1st engine. I swapped out the ICM's quickly & the majority of my bogging/ KR issues went away. Seeing several degrees of KR kinda surprised me wat with headers, 2.5' exhaust all the way back, high flow mufflers, 3" DP, a 2.5" res & no cat, rockers, FWI, 180*, a ported SC outlet/ what I could do with the inlet, etc. I always monitor parameters/ PCM read outs with a Scan Gauge tool that's mounted right behind the steering wheel. The ignition timing before was bouncing around & doing all sorts of crazy stuff on accelerating & would get as low as 12 at times occasionally & was just taking off like crap. I took it for a cruise & it smoothly went down to I'd say 16 but SAT there & didn't bounce around & the car seemed to accelerate a LOT better without any weirdness. Didn't see the crazy KR as before. Maybe 1* max at 1 point but I can't confirm that. Gonna look now & see wat else ppl wrote but I'd look at that ICM. Like dude said get one on the cheap & see wat happens.

Whoops guess it was the tune. Nevermind :D Actually I did come across this post last night. I did finish reading everything just don't remember. Glad u got ur issue straightened out.

I bet if all these people getting part throttle KR would set their TCC to only lock up in 4th gear it would solve all their problems. Just me .02 cents. It did for me.

Hey Pure2Sin what is TCC? Is that like traction control something? So I guess u have to have it "tuned" out to not do watever the hell it does stock or something? Hey when u get an off the shelf tune (yes I know they suck) don't they usually take care of like torque abuse modes or things that cause the car to bog, etc. or something like that? U know anything about how ZZP's shelf'd tunes come at least in terms of the base tune? I remember seeing a whole bunch of stuff on the website prior to ordering it a year & a half ago.

When I saying TCC I am talking about the torque converter. I was getting shift KR and part throttle KR also. When I set the torque converter to lock up only in 4th (After someone mentioned it) it solved my issues. I am not saying it will for everyone but I bet it will for a decent amount. As for the ZZP tunes I guess I don't know. I know the DHP 1.5 files still have torque converter lockup below 4th.

Another thing I just did that seems to work is to have the release for the torque converter in 4th at 25% throttle. I noticed that sometimes while I was cruising on the freeway and I hit the gas the trans would bog and I would get KR. This was really apparent when on the freeway going up a slight hill.

From what I read and have seen, torque reduction will not cause KR. It reduces timing independent of causing KR. The thing is finding a medium between not having it and not having too much to make the trans hang. I have been working on my file for a while now and would be willing to have anyone who has Tiny Tuner or a PT have it.

Keep in mind I am not expert but it worked for me.
