Knock sensor removal in rear of engine

Does any one know how to remove the rear knock sensor? The engine and transmission are too close to get a socket in and I've tried a crowsfoot and there isn't enough room to turn it.

Any help would be great, I need to change this to pass inspection and if I can't get to it then I my have to to junk the car as it's not worth the money to have a machanic pull the engine.:th_nervous:

thanks

long extension, a deep socket, a swivel can also help. its been done before in the car.

when it does come out coolant will spill from the hole, if it dont, poke the hole and clean it out. its just sludge blocking it.

Thanks, socket does not fit between the engine and trans, I'm using a thin wall deep 22mm, Also the sensor is at and angle pointing to the trans making it, as far as I can see, impossible to remove if the trans is not moved in some way.

BTW I'm in NJ too...trying to get the car to pass NJ inspection

it will fit. put the socket and extension in from the side, slide it into the space between the two pans.

and thats why i said a swivel helps too.

oh, before you go deeper then you need to. have you done any work to the car lately? like a power steering pump? that rear knock sensor wire is clipped to the bottom of the pump, if you dont know its there you can break the k/s wires. that will cause the code too.

Yes that wire was broken because removing ps pump...I fixed the wire a weeks ago, reset the obd and it's still throughing a low voltage on bank 1sensor code.

also I tried passing the deep socket from the side of the car and that doesn't fit through either

Hi
I have the same problem and I just replaced the power steering pump. I'm going to recheck the connection because I got real busy down there.
