Knock retard on a NA

This is just curiosity (since I think it's normal). I recently got a bluetooth OBD2 connector and the torque app on my phone. Cruising on the highway, typically KR was 0, but periodically it would hop up to 2-3* (the highest I saw was 5.7*). This would be when going up a hill typically.

I remember reading that NA engines will usually have KR, but I'm just not sure what's normal. The whole bluetooth adapter + Torque app is pretty cool :P

I still don't think that torque reads the KR correctly, cuz I will just eb crusing along and randomly get 6* of KR.

Maybe it was accurate since you blew yer kar up?

yeah but how much kr do you get at Wot mine instantly shoots up to 10-14 usualy around 3-5 at part throttle

How are your motor mounts? Downpipe hitting sway bar? Could be false knock...might be real...my N/A GT had 8* on 87 octane...go put some 91+ octane in it. If it goes away then it is real...

i get 0* at part throttle the only time i ever get any is if i'm at wot and then it's not much really.

I just got the Bluetooth/OBD2 reader and used it the other day with the app (Torque) before I took things apart again to install my headers (yeah - Pacesetters!!!)...

It seems to be accurate, got some KR going on at medium throttle (dropped pulley 3.5) without the headers and of course the Autolite XP Irridiums (I will be changing before starting her up again). So, when I fire the baby back up, with new copper plugs (605's), headers and Overkill's PCM, I'm hoping the KR will be gone or at least minimal... lol

I hope that all sounds right?
and oh, I've got 93 octane here so not too bad. Was looking around for 94 but hard to find.
:) There is a place not far in CT that supposedly carries racing gas (100).

:D

Anyways, that Torque app is pretty good, used it on my two older vehicles (01' GP and 99' Ford Explorer) to read the codes they're throwing... I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to play, $20 direct from China and $5 for the app! Wonder if the developer could get it to do a case learn, then that would be off the charts!

Regards!

gt's knock stock. thats why you get rid of the ubend and if youre me, put 89 octane in there.

If you want race gas w/o worrying about going to find it. Look up tolulene and get a calcuator to figure out the mix. You can typically find it at most paint stores.

go put some 91+ octane in it. If it goes away then it is real...

not sure what you mean by that statement. installed ported lim, with new gaskets and hv3 insert. at Wot now i see high 7-8 kr then it goes down to 5-6, at part or half throttle its still at 3-5 and this is still all on 87. still havent done the lower mounts yet. how much kr does the u-bend account for?

^^That.

I'm saying these things...

1) You have Flow IN mods, where are the flow OUT ones?
2) The octane comment was to say since you're running 87, go run a higher octane and if the KR levels go down then it probably isn't false since a higher burning fuel is killing the KR.
3) Check the motor mount/trans mount...if they are toast and the engine is allowed to move enough, the downpipe could be making contact with the sway bar causing false knock. Easy way to get around this is flipping it upside down, getting solid rubber replacement mounts, flipping the upper dog bone mounts or getting polys...also...getting an aftermarket DP, or headers...would get rid of that knock most likely too.

Yeah .. on 87 octane I was seeing up to 5* of kr in my 2004gt. I was able to tune this out this weekend by adding a splash of fuel in the upper range of the maf table :)

And its been a while but iirc 2-3* in my 1997 gt before the l67 rebuild /4t65e-hd + harness, pcm, dic swap.
