Knock Retard Issue

Hey guys, I recently bought an Aeroforce Scanner. 1 or 2 degrees of knock would pop out at full throttle. However, recently, I have been experiencing degrees of up to 7...My plugs have about 6k on them and the wires have about 12k. I went for custom tuning at Will's and knock was never an issue on the readings.

Could it be false KR? I'm not hearing any vibration from the engine, but once again, the issue is only when accelerating. I have no heat shield and I recently put a 9 inch cone filter. No other mods have been done since the custom tune.

I do not feel a difference in performance whatsoever, but again, 7 KR is no big deal, so I heard.

Thanks for your time and suggestions.

Could be false.. Take the blower belt off and see if the 7* is still there under throttle. If it is then it is false, but if not, then yes you have some knock. I use to get blips up to 7*, but then realized my tb was missing the screen. I replaced the screen and now I only get blips of 1-2* under heavy throttle when it's cold out.

I can try cleaning the screen and the sensor and maybe the inside of the throttle....I mean I have great support...Knock is indeed surprising

I have a 3.6 pulley which is no big deal. I think I have more than enough mods with headers and a custom street tune which was done after the last mod...the problem just popped out of nowhere, it didn't do it before.

seafoam the engine then, see if it helps

Oh, forgot to mention, I have SSAC headers with stock flex (the one that ticks under the hood due to contact with other parts), can this be the source of the false KR since I can hear the headers ticking from inside the car? I just remembered that I tried my quarter mile time a while ago with the scanner and the lights went on (above 5* KR) so the problem is NOT recent after all....and no performance issue whatsoever...

Take off the s/c belt and see if it still happens to check if it's false. Or you can dump a gallons of 104 race gas in it to see if it goes away. If it does, it's probably your tune. I had 4-5 degrees of KR with headers, 3.4 and other supporting mods sitting at 9.5:1 a/f . leaned it to 11.0 and got zero kr.

i was only asking because of this

and i was lost

Without the long ass pipe :th_winking:

So, it's just an open cone then...right off of the MAF sensor.

Try putting a little piece of pipe inbetween the MAF and the filter and see if that cures it.

BTW I just put 94 Octane and it seems to have reduced KR by 2 degrees...tuning was done in Ontario with better quality fuel (higher ethanol percentage).

I have the code p0455 (EVAP Canister Vent Solenoid Valve, Check Gas Cap)...Could this be related to KR in any way?
