• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

knob goblins..

to be honest, this forum is much lighter on the noobs than a lot of others. it would potentially help that instead of the 'introductions' forum we have a 'newbie' forum. this way, they know where to ask the questions that have potentially been done a thousand times. it would also be a good place to throw a bunch of the sticky threads to clean up the other sub forums.

There are noobs sections on most of the forums im on along with intro section good idea

stickeys can be moved there for the basics I still think there should be a basic troubleeshooting sticky aswell
covering basic issues and basic repairs
I know theres some in the how to section but i think alot dont realize how to's are even there

Its not so much that people ask noob questions its when they ask the question and the post directly below theres is about the same damn thing lol. I understand people need direction and opinions, we all do.

******* theres a ton of yall on this site. not everyone here is a grand prix god. im seeing more and more douchebag posts to new members lately. guess what?!? u were a noob once too. the defense of the said knob goblins is search feature this, search feature that. the search button here SUCKS and new members prob dont even kno it exists. i rarely ever use it. so with that said, if u come across a thread thats asking a question thats been asked a million times before. DONT POST IN IT if u have nothing to positive to say. even though its nice to read that u invented the GP and all of its mods and know 110% about everything on a GP.... thats great... u win.. ur awesome. spread teh knowledge even if it means copying and pasting a past post in another thread. *******. :th_shakinghead2:

oh yea and closing every thread that has douche bag posts isnt cool.... start handing out infractions and bans. jut my opinion.

I agree 100% I am pretty much a noob but slowly learning. I have gotten slapped a few times for some of my questions. Now if they'd tell me the correct answer the first time I wouldn't be clueless and wouldn't have to keep asking it

^Agreed. I went from a semi-long line of import vehicles to a 1994 SSEi Bonneville and got onto the bonnie forums and made alot of friend, but alot of enemies. As a quick learner, and a good reader, I learned how to navigate the sites (setup just like this one) and use the search button. But that was after being told several times what to do. We all do it, its just nature to be upset at a problem and we just want a direct answer from the people that know what to do.

We need to get the Admin and Mods to have a meeting and figure out a good policy for the same ol' noob questions, or create a section that we can direct people to. Possibly a "Q&A For Beginners" section at the very top... right above the beloved chat box even... in plain sight, so its the first to load before "New thread" buttons are clicked

just my thoughts :th_thumbsup-wink:

ive been here 2 years and done a sh!t ton of reading and can comfortably work on my car when it breaks. ppl have to start somewhere.

i love you all.
1. this is possibly the only time we will ever see bio say this...ever...so i want everyone to see it as it may never come around again

2. the search button is very useful IMO. there is a big number of people who have used this forum to maintain their cars for years so obviously it works. i wouldnt recommend it if i didnt use it, i probably use it everyday. maybe i should say ADVANCED SEARCH from now on

3. we all get slapped for our first questions, thats how you learn to solve problems yourselves. i feel this forum shouldnt 'baby' anyone. the only way you will learn is to read

This search works millions times better then clubgp....it doesn't lock-up/freeze when you request more then 20 posts, or search longer then 2 weeks, also doesn't take 3 min to get results.

I usually just keep myself updated with the common probs of these cars (CPS/LIM leak/etc) so when I run into the problem.... I have a general understanding of the issue I'm about to tackle. I had never touched a car before, besides basic fluid changes, but I also have spent countless hours reading.

People in general are just becoming lazy these days and want to be spoon fed the info, instead of doing ~5 min. of research.... man I gotta get outta work, attitude is getting worse.

So, I want to chime in here even though I'm totally new and feel kind of weird doing it. After lurking here for a couple weeks prior to signing up, I almost didn't even bother signing up due to the way people get treated. I don't usually get on forums at all for this very reason. I feel like even if people are going to say use search, they should at least link to one of the previous articles and be helpful at the same time. Not only does this make your advice seem less nasty but it adds another post that is helpful when someone is searching by adding more phrases to get them to the right solution. While more strict punishment might not be a bad idea, this forum is definitely not as bad as most.

As for this:

jesus christ i thought this was america. land of ****ing opportunity. where people can do and say whatever the **** they want. if people want to be dicks let em. what happened to our freedom?

Without getting into a theological debate about the fact that we've never really had freedom. Sure you are free to say what you want but on a website, usage is a privilege and not a right and arbitrary rules can be made. If you walked up to your boss and told him/her how worthless of a person you thought they were, would you ***** when you were fired about "what about freedom?" Actually, don't answer that, I know a lot of people would.

as to the first part of Cali's post, yes, posting links does help. i think everyone should bookmark certain links for easy copy and paste. i have the safley modding thread, header and manifold thread, open cone thread, and top swap thread saved in my favorites. now that im thinking about it im gonna find that lowering thread and save it too. i mean, if members take the time to make threads like these, spread them as much as you can to help out our fellow members

It went down high quickly when people became ignorant enough that the only way to express one’s self was with swearing.
