So there's these people I know with a stock early-mid 200's Lincoln LS. We raced. I won. /story.

But really, I pulled up to a stoplight and there they were. I came to a stop and did the ole rolling forward because you take your foot of the brake thing and couple time. It gets answered. I turned traction control off and punched it at the exact time they did. I hit about 60mph sitting still, even with new tires. By the time I hooked, they had 3 carlengths. I hooked, and immediately started pulling on them. I pulled past them at about 80, and had probably 2 car lengths at 110 when we shut them down.

I have a 2001 Pontiac GTP coupe. Stock with 145k miles.

im gna call BS on this story.

for one, a stock gtp will hook up, 2nd...there is no way in hell you pulled a V8 on top end. and those lincolns have good top end.

so ethier you lost or your modded

Nooo those ls's are slow as **** top end i know i had 2000 ls v8 for my first car and it was the biggest pos i ever owned

then you must have had a bad one..
ive drove one and it was pretty staut for a 3.9 v8.

gtp's fall on their face at about 80, i mean fall flat, nothing.

To my knowledge, I am stock. I pulled top end all day. And also, I can take traction control off, on dry pavement, and hit 70 mph before i hook up, swear to God. I daily drive a 1994 Z28 Camaro fully built with Lloyd Elliot heads/cam/intake/exhaust/stalled auto/etc. It will run a 12.1 on street tires and dynos in at 375hp. I have more troubles hooking up in this GTP than I do in my camaro.

I think their top end is great. In the couple times that I have raced this GTP, I have had a ridiculous amount of wheelspin off of the line, and only won the races because of the topend.

In fact, I have so much wheel spin off the line, I just invested in 4 of the best 225/60/16 tires that money can buy. Ran me $700, and I still can't hook up.

just teach yourself how to launch. find that perfect RPM spot. this will fix most of your wheel spin

2100 should do it, half throttle to start with and roll into it. probably wide open by the time it shifts to second.

thinking that gtp's have a good top end is a pretty rare opinion. not saying you're wrong, but most will disagree. and if you're spinning till 70, you've gotta be modded lol.

so your 240 hp fwd car has a harder time catching then your 375 hp rwd car?

but i do agree that top end on the lincolns not being all that

i could easily lay 30 foot strips in GTP with stock tires/rims with traction control off. on a launch im into WOT right before shift to second... just enuff to make the tires bark when i step on it.

haha thanks.

And to the above poster, yes, this gtp doesn't hook as well as my 375 rwhp camaro. Granted, the camaro may have a QA1 12 way suspension on all four corners and a couple traction bars, but that is besides the point.

Are you guys preloading on your launches? I've always been told that at the strip, preloading a fwd car is pretty pointless?

So preload to around 2000 rpm, foot of the brake, 50% throttle till right before the 1-2 shift, and then WOT?

And for the record, I have convinced the guy I know with that Lincoln LS to buy a GTP. He said he would join the forum and confirm the race/learn more about the L67 shortly.

also, this 3.9L v8 is only putting out 275hp and 280 tq. Why is it so hard to believe that a 240hp 280 tq car took it? You factor in driving conditions, driver quality, and quirks in the engines/drivetrains from 145k and powerloss from this mileage, and these races should be dead even.

its weird after driving the car long enough u can feel if ur gonna get traction or not... therefore u know when to roll into WOT..from a stop ill roll into it aggressively.... by the time i hit half throttle getting close to second i stomp it and ROLLLLLLL out first gear all the way

quick google search yielded 252 hp 261-267 ft lbs of torque and weighs 3600 lbs on v8 model LS.... story is very believable with those specs.

i get a little better of a launch if i preload, yeah. you probably don't wanna go much higher than 2000 or you'll just be spinning when you let off the brake. of course i don't have a gtp haha. but i've heard that number thrown around a little bit.

just my 2 cents I wouldn't think the top end would be very good depending on gearing and that fact that it's a v8 isn't going to warrant top end on it's own. the displacement with an ls isn't the high either the grand prix has more torque

They are slow. I raced a guy at school who was talkin trash a while ago and we did a 20 roll and i just immediately had 2 lengths on him and by 60 i had 4 lengths. He still wont admit his loss to this day.

agreed, dont go WOT until 2nd...

soooo just so u know i can confirm this story ( yes its an old thread) i raced one about a half hour ago
