Key stuck in Ignition

Every once in a while I will have a problem with my key getting stuck in the ignition of my 98 gtp. It comes and goes but it gets frustrating when it happens. I can turn the car off and I can turn the key down but I cant get it to go that one more click to pull it out. The ignition will get stuck in the position where the orange light will be on under the gear indicator in the gage cluster but it wont turn any further and therefore I cant pull the key out. Has anyone else had this problem and can anyone provide any help?

It's a common issue, u believe replacing the ignition switch fixes it but I'm not sure.

Anyways there's a little hole with a cover on it right under the key cylinder. Stick a pen or something, I use my key because it just comes out whenever for some reason, and until it pushes the release and you can turn the key one more click.

It has nothing to do with the ignition switch, its a solenoid in the shifter that tells when the car is in park, this solenoid goes to **** and then the car doesnt think its in park so it wont allow you to remove the key. Cheepest fix remove the bottom of the steering column and zip tie the release down. There is also instructions somewhere on how to fix the solenoid problem, if you take it in to a repair shop they will make you pay for an entire shifter.

yeah another common reason people have to use thekey release is our cars lock the keys in ignition when the car dies..

like he said though its a solenoid between shifter and ignition letting the car know its in park mine was figgity for a while I found tilting the steering wheel or sometimes just re entering it into park when I dont hear a click works

ps swiggles I love your sig :P

I've had someone tell me this, and swear that the issue was the shifter and all GPs in wreckers had the shifters gone long ago.

Solenoid seems to remove all possibility though.
