Key FOB

Ok so I am having some problems with my key fob. SOMETIMES the trunk release and the unlock will work... The lock and panic buttons NEVER work. So I followed Bills reprogram steps... Still no work. Changed batteries... Nothing. Cleaned off the circuit board and ALL the buttons worked like twice each. Now it is back to the way it was before... I have decided that my fob is F'ed so I am going to get another. Now my question is does my new fob HAVE to be from a GP? I know someone that is scrapping a 98 cavalier that has both key fobs. They look the same but the cavys fobs don't have a panic button.(not a big deal for me since my horn is busted anyway) Will that key fob work if I reprogram it???

my rubber membranes took a dump so i bought an ebay key fob plastic shell for like 5 bucks. works like a charm now.

Yup, and almost 100% of the time it is that.. When I say change the Pad, thats wht i mean by what Odi said. We have so many people come into the shop to get their new remote programmed they bought and all we do is put their working circuit board in new remote and it will work. Or we sell them a new pad and they can have a spare remote, or return the one they bought.

The keylessfix works great. It will do the job no probs. But they are more money than buying a shell remote, something to consider.

I have a question related to this. Could I buy one of those key FOBs off Ebay and program it for my car? I'm not sure if my car ever had one or not, if that matters. I was tempted to buy one off Ebay but not sure if that would actually work.

As long as the GM/Lear numbers on the back of the original Fob match your new fob, you can program it.

Edit - When you buy a remote thats not programmed to your car, you must get the dealership to program it.. The simple relearn process in your owners manual will not program the new remote to your car.

I don't have a key FOB. I was wondering if I could buy one off Ebay and program it so it works, or does the car originally HAVE to have one for that to even work?
