Kelly Explorer Tires

Madness

New member
We are looking for new tires for a Pontiac Grand Prix. The car has 145,000 miles and 2 of the local shops are suggesting the Kelly's as a middle of the road priced/quality tire. Has anyone tried these tires? The car only gets 7500 miles or so a year and mostly highway miles in Minnesota.

They are a basic 40,000 mile all season tire.

Thanks.

Kellys are so so, on a car they arent so bad but because of the tread rating they won't last very long.

Can they get anything like a firestone FR710 or even a cooper cs4 tire? Both are mid range tires that are pretty darn nice.

Uniroyal Tiger Paw Touring tires are rated (depending on which site, or shop you go to) 70-80K tires. The ride is smooth, they do well in the snow and they are better quality than Kelly's in my eyes.

Kelly tires are crap in a circle that fits your wheel. had 4 of them relatively new when I bought my GTP in Oct. 2012 and the didn't even last 20,000 on the rear, I'm a bit of an enthusiastic driver but I don't tear them up intentionally. my "Normal" driving with a set of GY assurance lasted over 60,xxx miles, by far my favorite

Wow, 20,000 miles in one year. You must do a lot of driving. They are only a 40,000 mile tire. I am just looking for a good, basic all season tire. Again, the car only gets 7500 miles a year tops.

If I have 2 slow leakers at $25 per repair and the new tires mounted with stems, disposal, and balancing at around $90 each the Kelly's don't seam too bad.

I am at 4/32 now headed into a MN winter, so if I get new tires it won't snow and if I wait it out we will have record snow. With no snow I could get by till next fall.

What do you guys think?

I've done 30,500 miles since I got it. I'm on my second set of tires, I spent a bit more on them but they were worth it in any conditions
