I would think that close to WoF would be the best. It's close to the highway that would get us to the track, downtown, and the Legends easily. it's right off 435 so if you all want to do the Loop cruise it'd be a good starting point.
 
There are several new hotels by WOF, but as far as amenities, it sucks. One gas station, then a Wendy's. You'll have to drive North for any decent places to eat. But it is close to the center of everything.
