K&N Air Intake Horsepower

Haha, nice. I agree with everything except the ebay intake. They're only like 2.5" tubing, and half of them are chrome which kind of defeats the whole "cold" air intake thing lol. BUT then again having chrome in your engine adds 15 horse and is a great supporting mod for the tint so I guess it'd balance out :p

i agree. chrome in the engine bay helps deflect the heat away!

^ lol just like aluminum foil hats protect from aliens sucking your brain out!!!

I agree with about everything thats said, you need some sort of intake when modding, to the extent of the intake depends on how modded, and we can all agree ebay's are junk and k&n's are overpriced and over rated!

YAY, now we can all get along again! :th_clapping:

yeah, but how many people have put together a 'hybrid' intake with the stock box and some nice tubing? no one. i actually learned this from the subaru guys because the MAF based cars have problems when you take out the stock airbox and its parts.

hang on slick...dont get all foreign on me on a GM board

what do you mean maf based cars have problems when you take out the stock air box?? like the maf is gonna read wrong? with any major change up to the intake, the maf probably will need a retune. that is probably why alot of people dont see the results they want.

i do like that idea tho, i think the stock box, if you wanted to keep the intake sealed, is the best sealing box. and i think it would work pretty good modified. then i could pop my hood and be like i aint even got an intake, its slow :D

it doesnt affect our cars. i was refering to the n/a subarus that were MAF based. they have a very annoying thing where high throttle, low RPM situations makes a disgustingly rich situation and bogs the car a lot. this is not the case with the stock intake, but only when a full aftermarket intake is used.

ahh okay gotcha.

either way tho, and i dont know why i dident think of this earlyer, but an large change up to the air intake is probably gonna disrupt the maf and need retuning.

maybe that is how k&n got there numbers, dynoed a stock car, then put there intake on it, as well as a tune and got there numbers. but thats not a fair test. you would need to tune the stock car and see what the most is you could get out of it, then put the intake on and again tune it and see what you get then to bo totally fair.

For all the flaming and arguements from my relatively simple questions, I thought I would add this for ****s and grins.:th_BSflag-big:(intended for the mostly BS #'s from K&N, though I still like the intake and they have a darn good warranty program, also for the people that only flamed on the thread and didn't help at all.)
