K&N Air Intake Horsepower

You might get 14WHP on a car with a intercooled and cammed setup with the stock airbox running a tiny pulley. Claiming you get 14whp on a cold air on a 3800 blown or not is just RIDICULOUS. You do know...that IF YOU DO YOUR MATH RIGHT...that adds up to nearly 17 horsepower to the crank? wow.
 


16 whp to the crank is about 20 to the crank. added to 260 (stock crank) you get 280. 23% drivetrain loss to 280 hp is 215 whp..minus wear and tear onthe engine could be about 200..15 whp from an intake isnt far fetched. although you wouldnt think of an intake netting decent numbers it is possible.
 
Hey sorry americansoldier. Thanks for servin the country bro. That's what I've been thinkin. When k&n did their dyno tuning they prob used a car that had a couple other things done. I doubt our cars have the capability to grow hp numbers like these on a stock engine with only a cai kit. I really only got my fwi because I wanted that cool whine. I'm sure it helped some don't get me wrong. But, I think most of the time a cai setup works the best when coupled with a few other bolt ons
 
Never would have imagined that such a simple questions, "So would that mean that the 200 HP engine really only has around 140 HP at the wheels? I find that hard to believe," & "So i guess my next question is, has anyone independently got a Dyno done for a stock GTP or a lightly modded GTP with things like an Air Intake or replaced Spark Plugs & Wires." Would both generate so much controversy, and yet still get basically no good answers, save a few people who actual read what the questions were.
 
I'll tell you this...unless your plugs and wires were shot your not going to gain but MAYBE 1 horsepower...if that.

As for K&N saying that they made 197 FWHP stock on a GenV'ed is very possible. Now...saying that they gained nearly 17 horsepower to the wheels with just a cold air...VERY unlikely. Especially with these cars you get the power from flow mods, cooling mods, tuning, and pulley drops...not air intake, blower porting, bigger TB's/injectors, etc. They are bringing in more air than letting the car breathe...IMO...should have done headers and tuned it and watch it gain 20 to the tire.

Get used to it on here Most of the people on here that will give you sh!t about a simple question have an idea that every one should know every thing there is to know about cars At least thats what it would seem... Take it wit a grain of salt

As for the dyno thing Dyno runs can get expensive so most people wouldnt do a dyno run for each mod they do and so on .....

there was actually just a heated debate over how much power a K&N intake system will gain in performance, and the numbers used were based on K&N? wow if thats logic im goin with this thing... Pontiac Grand Prix Performance Chip

come on guys... K&N cant make their system any more efficient than putting a cone on the throttle body...

Hell yes man Im running 2 of these piggy backed in my 95 sable and that thing puts out like 350 rwhp now its amazing
Never knew a 3.0 ford fwd v6 could put down that much rwhp

hey i appoligize for my attitude. i was drinking last night and stressin about deploying again before x mas and theres no reason to argue onnline. either way you can get 1.9 modded rockers cheaper then a k&N which is money better spent hp wise. i always had k&nintakes on my cars but i the gp one before i knew about the 3800 or i wouldnt have spent the money
 
Yeah u know I've used them before on previous cars. I've gotten away from using them in recent years. My rcsb hemi truck I had I put an AEM brute force intake on. It worked good and was only 200 bucks at the time. I think in future vehicles before I buy some expensive piece of crap I'm gonna see if I can't just make an intake for the car
 
I wasted money on a wizair because, i thought i was going to just throw a few stupid bolt-ons on my GT and be done...boy was i wrong...
 
see i made a short ram and i did feel a LITTLE power differnce and a LITTLE better gas mileage and thats wut an intake is supposed to do...A LITTLE ha

Dyno a stock car and show me the gains.

Better yet, why does anyone car how much power it makes? The only time power matters is when it comes time to brag to your buddies how "fast" your car is.

Go to the track and get some "fast" times and let the slips do the talking.

10 WHP can easily be negligible if you need the driver mod so again, why does ANYONE care?
 
My crx made 189 whp with a k & n filter......sorry I just wanted to add that in since alot of people on here like to hate on hondas, but that's not to say it didn't make nearly as much torque : (, but that really doesn't matter know because I dropped a valve. That's why I'm driving a gp in the first place. Anyways all I have to say is FWI FTW!!!!! Anything else is a waste of money when you can build it yourself not sponsored by ZZP or wizaired, but HOME DEPOT!

Show my a dyno sheet NOT from K&N of just an intake car making 11+ more WHEEL horsepower. Seriously.
