k guys... antifreeze everywhere... need help bad

DaytonaGTP

Its not that small is it?
k on the way to work i realized i was overheating. so i pulled over and popped the hood. and theres antifreeze freakin everywhere all over the motor. im guessing wherever it cam from the drive belts flung it. whel it drank a half gallon of antifreeze in 1/2 a mile. also i noticed that there was no heat coming from my heater and the water temp would rise about 80 degrees every 10th of a mile. i havent checked my oil yet so idk if its a gasket. im steering more towards a water pump or blown hose, heater core maybe. thanks in advance

Coolant elbows?

When the coolant level gets low enough it cant reach the heater core, therefore no heat. No heat doesnt mean youre heater core is bad, just means you lost coolant. Plus if it was your heater core your passenger side floor would be full of coolant.

Im guessing either coolant elbows or possibly a lower hose.

check all your hoses to make sure they are snug. spray it all off and fill up your coolant with water. start car, find the leak... if it's near your drive belt, it's either water pump or coolant elbows. if the belt is throwing coolant around then i'd look at water pump.

elbows leak coolant fairly slow as it's a crack in the plastic/o-rings GONE. water pumps leak much faster.

Guy at work had all this blow happen from bad elbows and blown UIM... L36 though so I'm willing to bet the elbows are at fault here.

ALL of the coolant in your engine has to pass through those elbows.

twas a coolant elbow in the back it blew out apparently.:th_biggrin2::th_biggrin2::th_biggrin2: so glad cuz it coulda been worse. spose while im at it ill flush the system and nix the dexcool cus i noticed the goo all up in there.

well considering after 230k miles it has been a champ and ive been boasting about its relliability then this happens so i think karma has me here. but even still not a serious issue. so all in all this is why i drive a 3800. at least this particular 3800...lol

the coolant elbow is not a reliability issue. they're fvcking 1/8" plastic. they're going to go on just about every 3800. bad design, IMO.

boy ill tell ya that little hose was a *****. it was the elbow that came out of the tensioner to the motor. freakin had to remove both the tensioner and alternator. wasnt that bad took me like most of the afternoon but only like a couple hours of labor. the only thing i want to make clear is if i got all the air out cus i dont want to blow a gasket. so after it got to operating temp i made sure the overflow tank was full as was the radiator and then i bled the little bleeder on the thermostat housing until it trickled water. the hoses were stiff so its pressurized.the temp did fluctuate a little abnormally though but i guess a couple days of driving and ittl prolly settle. let me know if i missed anything guys... thanks

Yea, that's what happended to me. 2 days after the tranny R&R. Coolant everywhere. The whole was hiding under the BOTTOM of the elbow so the hole was NOT visible. I could feel the hole with the tip of my little finger (my finger actually went into the hole). Coolant everywhere from there down. I replaced both (of course). What a mess, alot of coolant to clean up after, the repair work.
