• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

I will be swapping in a getrag 282 into my car, tired of the damn automatic and the bull shyte that goes along with it, its acting up again and im tired of it. I know alot of you are going to tell me that the tranny cant handle the power, but i will find out once and for all i guess. There has been alot of speculation on this subject, none actually confirmed to my knowledge that it wont hold up. There are many running in fieros, and i know while they may be lighter, not by much and with the weight savings going to the manual, its only around a 500 pound difference between the two cars. There are people running 400 hp plus v8's hooking up and holding no problem. I will be smart about launching, i will ease the shifts. No reason to bang gears every day anyways, and to dump the clutch. Also i might add that even if you think it wont hold up to the torque, its more then likely gonna bust the tires loose first, and im not going to be running slicks. Expect a writeup relatively soon, i will first get all the parts together, then dive into it. Just so you know...

bio i appreciate your input. i have to ask this question though, have you or have you known anybody that has run this setup before?

Not saying it isn't possible...it is, no doubt...I'd rather get a build auto and be done...and it is faster too with a built auto trans.

and just so you know... its been done here.

Yeah that is Miko's crazy sh*t Cutty...twincharged the whole bit...but he does EVERYTHING custom and is awesome at it.

ok.... its going to be my fun DD so i dont really care about it being 100 percent perfect on the timing shifts. I want to have a fun l67 5 speed.

its not all about "consistency" the higher gear ratios of a 5 speed will allow you get up to your peak horsepower (around 6000 rpms) alot faster.

when i raced my 5 speed cavalier agaisnt the same exact car, only an automatic, i was winning before i even shifted once, thanks to the higher gear ratio

Then just upgrade your differential gears.

Are the axles going to be the same or are you going with custom? I'd be worried about them for a DD manual. Njbrain on here did a manual swap too, he has a list of parts needed for the tranny he went with and a lot of pics.

yea, i saw his thread, he used the opal f40 tranny though, im using the getrag 282, its easier to find, and people have used them in the fieros, while only being 500 pounds lighter, they have also put high hp v8s behind them no problem. As far as the axles, im not sure, will have to find out more then likely. Ive already found out about the clutch and flywheel, and probably need a oil filter relocation kit. gonna try to get the adapter the police impalas came with, they came with the factory oil cooler.

I don't know where you're getting your power info, but these engines peak way before 6000 rpm.
