Junk yard parts

I have a 99 GT and will need to change my LIM soon so I thought maybe time to do a top swap. I know it's not just a plug and play swap but I have to start someplace! what should I stay away from, taking for granted I can find the heads and supercharger in the yard. basically when I find a supercharger what should I be checking (never had any experience with a supercharger) for? slop in the bearings I would guess, but what else should I check to make sure I have good parts to start with?

Look at the current top swap thread on here I think that should cover everything......

i am aware of the top swap thread, was more worried with what I should be looking for as far as use of the parts. obviously when I check the heads and such, but more along the lines of what the supercharger should be like. how easy is it to turn, if there is any slop at all in the pulley when I do turn it etc.

Spin it, see how much it spins after you let go - and listen for any noises coming from it.

If you watch and listen the one with the stock pulley on it spins more after letting go, and has a little noise from it - other one with the smaller pulley and burn-ish housing doesn't do either of those (it was rebuilt).

Hope that gives you some idea what to look for.

Easy to check a charger.

1. cut belt off and move the pulley back and forth (clockwise/counter) with your hand. Do you feel a clunking/slop? That's $30 for a coupler and oil. Piece of cake
2. Flip the charger over and spin it slowly.. do you see coating missing off the rotors? throw it on scrap pile and go to next.. lol fine one with most of it's coating.

That's about all you need to know. obviously the boost bypass needs to have no broken nipples, same with the plastic mainfold on top.
