Jammed door latches

So I have a '95 Grand Prix and last night the passenger side door latch got jammed or something similar. I can't shut the door at all because the latch part is closed and will not move back to the open position to catch the post thing on the car part to close the door. (I'm sorry for such a lame description, but I'm not that car savvy) I went to my driver's side to see how it was supposed to look and I accidentally moved the latch to the closed position and am unable to move that one back either.

I tried using a screwdriver to move them back, but that didn't work at all. I tried locking the doors and then trying to move it, unlocking the door and then trying to move it, and I'm out of ideas. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what to try? Thanks! :)

put a screwdriver where the bolt should go and pull the handle at the same time...now while pullin the handle pull outward with the screwdriver and the latch should let go...oh and unlock your doors first

i'm going to call this thread back from the dead.

I'm having the same problem on my '98 GTP, but the door is in the shut position and won't open. i've tried using both handles, obviously and that didn't work. i can't figure out how to get the door panel off... i was able to get it open once (and thought that i fixed the problem) by basically prying the lock "switch" (with the orange sticker) back until it almost broke... then pushing the door hard while pulling the handle. It may have been luck that it opened, there certainly was no science to what i did.

if anyone has any ideas, i'd love to hear them. If you live in chicago and have had this problem/know how to fix it, i'd also give you beer and/or money to come and show me how it's done.

thanks
