Issue with fbody caliper swap.

I have been in the middle of an fbody brake caliper swap on my car for some time now, and in the 105* heat, I decided to go ahead and do it.

I have done brake jobs multiple times but this has stumped me. when i was cleaning up the brake calipers, i pulled them apart and cleaned and re assembled them. the brake brackets, i had an issue with trying to pull the guide pins out and so i left them in the brackets.

I just went out for a spin to test out hte brakes and im getting a squeaking noise from the calipers. I can hear them hitting the rotor on the rotation and it speeds up its rate with the speed. Im wondering if the calipers are having a hard time floating. i took a trip of a mile on the new pads and rotors and their was smoke billowing out of the wheels and i could see some discoloration on the rotor itself (anealing color)

Is it these guide pins that are causing this damage or are they needing to be broken in?

i dont know if the smoke would be from that. but i know exacatly what your talking about with the squeaking. happened with mine. it was the brake pad retainers (the metal piece that the top and bottom of the pads slide into)hitting the rotors. i tried grinding them down but it still happens if i am on the brakes a lot. im wondering if theyre even necessary to have on there.

yea they are neccesary if you dont want your pads to be floating around...get new ones or make sure they arent bent...u can usually see the spots on them where they have been rubbing on the rotor

If you cannot get the slide pins out of the bracket, you need new brackets and slide pins. They must move for the brakes to perform properly. The squeaking is most likely the anti-rattle clips, as previously mentioned.

Well it turns out that one of the pins was completely seized. I assumed that it would heat up and break free, but that diddnt work at all...

I went ahead and pulled another bracket, drilled and tapped it and its working fine, despite stripping the bleeder screw with a cheap brake line wrench.

The squeaking came from an anti rattle clip that was being heated so much that it was expanding to the point of rubbing the rotor. the caliper was pinching down the pad so much that it started to smear on the rotor.

I spent so much time lookng at the details that i completely ignored the most important one.

I had the problem of getting the pads to seat properly, the pad clips like to move around and rub on the rotors...
