Is this a GT or GTP?

Hi I was looking at grand prix's and i saw this car on auto trader.

I'm pretty sure it is a GT (the carfax says so, didn't buy the whole one yet) but it for sure has a supercharged engine and not the GT wheels. Seems like somebody might have done an engine swap on it? Or the previous owner just added the GM supercharger and wheels on it?

I don't know all the differences between a GTP and GT so maybe somebody could fill me in here. It doesn't look like it has paddle shifters so yeah I have no idea if its a gt or gtp.

If its a factory GT with a supercharger added after do you think its worth the price? I'm about 3 hours away from the car but seems like it might be worth the trip. I am most likely going to sell my mustang for a different car and this was one i was looking at so hopefully somebody can clue me in on whats going on here.

looks pretty un touched and i dont remeber if it was 05 or 06 but they started calling what the 97-03 would have been a gtp to a gt. so the last supercharged grand prixs where called gt. just fyi on that, the car looks really nice.

Oh okay, gotcha. Didn't know they dropped the name for the 06's

Couple of more questions though.

Why doesn't it have the paddle shifters? optional feature im guessing? Is that something i will regret not having?

Does it have the upgraded sound system? Does it have the HUD?

Anything I should watch out for when I go to look at it in a few days?

Paddle shifters came on Comp G"s. Not GT's. It actually shifts slower when you use them from what i've heard so there not all that great anyway. From the looks of it I don't think it has HUD. And as for the sound system....if you open the trunk there should be an amp mounted to the rear deck IIRC. It's been a while since i've been in the car I took my 06 seats out of so i could be wrong. BUT i do know that there should be an amp in the trunk.

It's got the Monsoon (upgraded factory radio) system btw. I can tell from the Autotrader pictures.

P.S. It seems a little pricey for what it is. Talk them down a few grand.

P.P.S. Based on my findings in the factory options, this was a rental car. I would advise against buying it, especially for the price they're asking LOL

How can you visually tell if one of these has the upgraded sound system?

and what tells you its a rental car? that website is nice for finding the factory options, can't tell what most of that stuff means though.

and tbh seems like thats the price of these cars around my area, like 11 grand range. im going to keep hunting though!

Considering the mileage, the price isnt bad. My 07 GT had 123k on it and still booked for 11,500. I paid 9300. This is only one year older and has half the mileage.

NADA Clean Retail value is $13,375 on this 06.

The stereo head unit is different in the standard and Monsoon systems. The one pictured is the Monsoon, so if it doesn't look like that then it has a standard stereo.

In the Comp Nine breakdown it's equipped with rental fleet options and a guaranteed fleet repurchase (whatever that means). I haven't seen one optioned like that before which leads me to believe strongly that it was a rental car. And we all know how people drive rentals...

Also, 2 years ago I paid 6400 for my 04 GT that booked at around 10k (at a dealer nonetheless). Not supercharged, but I don't think that can justify such a huge price difference. Had 112k miles. I guess I just got a good deal? lol.

ah I see the different head units now. duh

Well really i have around 11k to spend so Im looking to get the best deal around my area. Honestly even if it is a rental car i am still thinking about taking a chance with it. I wish i knew for sure :/

There actually are a couple higher mileage GXPs out there, I have been considering those as well.

Any suggestions? im basically looking supercharged 3.8 or GXP. If you click back to results on my autotrader link, you can see what im looking at here.

Yeah idk, I just wish there was a way to find out for sure, if i pay for the carfax would that tell me?

Also I heard that the 04 GPs had a smaller "driver space(?)" but they changed it in the 05+ models? if this is true id probably need to get an 05 or newer because im pretty tall lol

Don't pay for a carfax yourself. The dealer should give you the full report for free. As far as the "driver area" I have no idea. I've never heard anything about it. It could be true, but it sounds kind of unlikely.

Rental companies usually don't keep their cars that long. Could have been a rental that was sold to somebody and then sold to a dealer.
