i think the hub alone is $40 or so from zzp. Not positive though. Although you could sell the 2.8 and make some money back. I'd offer $40 and see if he bites.
 
is there any possibility that the hub is broken? i know this seems difficult to do but you never know
 
If it looks ok i'd assume it's ok but the only way to tell is to put it on. I would think it would be pretty hard to break one.
