My 01 gtp down shifted hard a few months back in ann arbor, i ftove it a hour home manually shiftimg it. But has no gears in drive. But i have all gears when i manually shift it. I drive it around my block manually shifting it and its fine, it has me second guessing if it even is a garbage trans. Has anyone else had this happen. Im going to scan it tonight so see what codes it throws. Thanks
 


Does it move when the car is in "3" sounds like does but want to make sure.

I'm sure the trans guys will be all over this soon.

Sounds like an electrical problem IMO, but i don't know much about these trans as far as repair/issues goes.
 
It's broken and needs replaced there's no way around it. Mom and dads van has been this way for about a year and they just keep driving it like that. It's starting to slip pretty good now though.
 


Just curious, if the forward band is broken, How can the car still work with it put in 1, 2 and 3 manually?
 
It manually applies the stuff inside. I'm no trans expert by any means but that's how it works.
 


There is a foward band and a manual band. The manual band is far smaller than the foward and snaps alot easier so its just a ticking time bomb.
 
Yea its parked im not driving it but was just curious because i drove it home perfectly fine. And Snowthe1f im too far from SD. Sorry man im leaving for florida in a few days so il just have to wait til im back to start calling around.
 
Snow.. look up trans info/links by me. Lots of good stuff to learn how it works etc.

Like Dan said.. forward band is broken. You can verify this by dropping the pan and looking into a hole by the passenger end of the trans. That band will move/wiggle funny and it'll be obvious it's broken.
