Is it possible to swap head units?

I'm sure this has been asked before, but i've been unable to find an answer. I am looking to replace the head unit with the bass/treble sliders with the unit with the 7 band graphic equalizer. My old 00 GT had the graphic equalizer head unit and it sounded pretty decent for a stock system. I'm sure aftermarket would sound better but it is out of the question due to numerous theft problems in the past. Are these units just plug/play replaceable/interchangeable? Just wondering what the difference is in these two sound systems. Thanks in advance!! :)
 


Are there more speakers in the vehicles with the 7 band graphic equalizers? I owned the 00 GT for years and loved the stock system with the equalizer....had just enough bass for me....and volume as well. I had the opportunity to drive an 01 GT with the bass/treble slider and the system sounded terrible compared to the 00.....it sounded extremely flat with very little bass.
