Ipod Adapter?

How can I plug in my ipod to my 2005 GT? I know I need to buy cables because I want to keep my stock head unit. Does anyone know what cables I would need?
 


I know you CAN buy a FM transmitter. Wich all it is is a jack that plugs into the headphone out section on the Ipod. I had one but did not work to good. And the batteries went out fast on it.

Definatley don't go with the FM transmitter. That is what i am using now and it is terrible. The one i have plugs into the cigarette lighter and charges the ipod. It is nice but not worth it. Not sure what wire you need but there are a bunch for sale on ebay.
 
got one from crutchfield about a year ago it works awsome was about i wanna say 70ish after S&H. its a aux input and u will need rca cables, the unit is hard wired to the radio harness and it is read like a cd changer or like a sat radio how ever u set it up. The only thing i dont like is that the input level kinda sucks have to turn i pod to max and crank the radio. when i switch it back to radio have to turn it back down, and you have to use the ipod controls cant use the radio.

but i put one i my buddies caviler its a fm transmiter but its a hard wired one so no static and it has input vol control so i like it better than the one i go and its universal and cheaper 50 bucks

I have the exact same thing for my zune, and i just got finished installing it in my 08 GP. It pulls the audio from the bottom connector, so it is line level, so no matter the volume on the ipod (or zune in my case) The volume coming from your stereo is the same. Also it charges your ipod (or Zune) with only 1 wire showing. It is easy to install, and all wiring is hidden, except for the one that connects to the ipod (or zune) itself. I can post pics after work if you would like. They make one specific for the zune and one specific for the ipod. I got mine off of ebay for about 90 bucks, but it is truly worth it. the part number to search ebay for is "gmpdaux1". It allows you to use the cd changer port on the back of your stereo, and it for the most part plug and play, you just supply it with 12v constant and 12v switched and a ground, Which I can also give instructions on, and post pics. check out the installation instructions they are pretty simple, hope this helps and let me know if you need any help! Also as long as there is no cd in the cd player and your device is playing music, you can select the ipod (or zune) input with the "play cd" button on your steering wheel, an dof course the volume controls still work as well. (just cant switch songs (on zune anyway, not sure about ipod, i dont have one). For those with zunes, the part number is "gmznaux1" and like i said i got it shipped for about $90 from ebay.

i wish i knew about this thing before i bought my $300 HU, the $75 steering wheel interface, $90 data bus interface, and about 10 hours in my car realizing that i should have just taken it to best buy to begin with...lol

i'll be replacing the factory head unit in my '04 very soon. after doing this, will i lose the ability to use my steering wheel controls?
 
ive got a new HU in my 99 and steering buttons are purely in thw way now :(

id love to either make em work or replace with something else.
 
If you use the ipod adapter I mentioned before, your steering wheel controls still operate everything as far as fm and cd are concerned. You can even use he volume and "play cd button" as long as you do not have a factory changer. After installing, plug in your ipod (or zune). get it playing a song, and press the select cd button on your steering wheel. You should hear the glorious sounds from your ipod in cd quality through your stereo. No scratching or fm noise. Best of all, it charges your device to, so its always fully charged. Let me know if you have any more questions. Also, You can't switch songs with the steering wheel, that has to be done on your mobile device. But like I said, you can still select the source either fm am or xm if you got it and cd. if you want to listen to a cd, simply unplug your mobile device. I have had mine for a while now, and will never go without this setup again.
 


I'm Happy with my new hu. I has a remote and I made an iPhone/iPod dock for the car. I just wish I could do something productive with my steering controls
