• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

ipad mini install

Forgive my ignorance, but will the aluminum foil interfere with the wireless communication side of it?

Also, if you encase it in plastic wrap or other items, will it cool properly? I'm pretty sure the cooling is passive, not sure if there is a problem with putting what is essentially insulation around it.

Good luck with the project! Just trying to give you a few things to consider.

lol I'm powering the iPad off, taping it all up, wrapping it in aluminum foil, and then doing my fiberglass mold. I'm only wrapping it to proctect it from the fiberglass resin. If I don't, it will seep into the iPad and all over the iPad. Thus ruining it. After my mold is complete, I will remove all tape and aluminum foil.

So here's a little update for everyone. This is my test fit. A little more tweaking and it will be ready. I have not received all my wiring so it is not wired up yet. But hey, here's what it kind of looks like.

It doesn't sit that far in. That was a test fit. It will sit flush with the dash. But it will come out by pulling it out. But I won't be taking it out until I run it through Bluetooth. As of right now, it is wired directly through the harness to an aux cord.

I had actually finished it. Had it all done. It worked great. But I decided it wasn't what I wanted. So now I'm going to go with a double din stereo. The iPad was nice and all, but I didn't want to put data on it and not having fm radio got old.

Yup exactly why I never understood the point of tablet installs I rather just have a nice DD instead

I might do this, but for track reasons, with an android table that has FM radio built in. ATuner App and good to go.

For the cool factor its cool but for functionality ehh rather just get a nice double din and keep the tablet for around the house use.

Yes you could, but it would look stupid and then how would access the radio?

The iPad would stream to the headunit over bluetooth. Volume and other settings could be adjusted from the iPad or from the steering wheel controls. If you wanted to listen to actual radio just pop the iPad out and you would have access to the face of the radio. Here is a picture of an unfinished one so you can see that it doesn't look to bad. Once it's finished it still looks a little out of place, but the whole point is to have a tablet in front of it anyways.

Ya I guess that's one way of doing it. But I wouldn't want to do it that way. I'd rather buy a Bluetooth amp and wire all my speakers to that amp and connect my iPad to the amp.
