Hi Guys.
I have been a member of this site for a few years but have never posted.
I have a serious problem, I live north of Toronto we are located right in the snow belt of Ontario. I recently spent 5 months in Florida and before I left in Nov. I covered my Grand Prix with a vinyl tarpaulin sheet and on my return last week I was devastated to find a lot of rust under the hood, the disk brakes show signs of rust the alternator looks bad It will not start. I am just sitting back trying to figure out my next move. Any Advise for a Dummy A-Hole for even considering wrapping his car in plastic!

The brake rust will come right off when you drive the car and use the brakes. Mine get that slight rust coating everytime I wash it. As for the alternator I have no suggestions. My guess is your battery is dead if it has just been sitting.

try jump starting it or get it on a battery charger first

as for the rust (its mostly cosmetic I would assume as it hasn't been sitting that long) covering it didn't allow it to dry out properly....therefore surface rust started and possibly corrosion in some of the electrical things like the Alternator

I don;t have any suggestions how how to clean it up except elbow grease

Thanks guys, the battery has a full charge but will not turn the motor over,\ if the alternator is ceased up would that enable the starter from turning over ?

It can. Take the belt off and see if it starts. Don't run it for long, the water pump won't be turning.

^^ this

Also is it making any noise at all when you turn the key? I'm wondering if there could be a dead spot in the starter or some corrosion on the starter wires or actually in the starter from being so damp?

Thanks for all the advise guys, It's black fly season in Muskoka and last evening was the first chance I have had to work on my Grand Prix, It took about 15 minutes to take the belt off I turned the key and Abra cadabra she started like a timex. I just have to replace the Alternator and I'm back in business.
Yahoo.
Thanks again !
