Intermittent Door chime driving me nuts!!

I have a 97 Grand Prix SE, I had this problem a while back that stopped, now after replacing the blower motor for the heater it's BACK and it's driving me bonkers!! It's the chime that will go off if you open the door with the key on (3 or 4 dings) If I swerve the car hard left/right, it does not go off, if I break hard, accelerate hard, no chime, a hard bump (rough road) on one side only, no chime. If I go over a fairly gradual bump (dip in the road) chime goes off, rough road on both side, chime goes off. When I first put the car in gear and drive out of the garage (no bumps) it goes off after about 20'. I have jiggled wires under the dash, bounced the front end up and down and I can not get it to chime when sitting still.... I am at my wits end trying to figure out what is doing this. At times it will chime repeatedly, and the stereo will turn off and on....I'm about ready to find the chime/dinger and just cut the wire, but I'd rather try to find the cause rather than do a redneck fix... :P
thanks

So apparently that little dinger is integrated into some control /monitoring module under the dash on the driver side, just above/in front of the E-brake pedal. It's a box approx 4" x 8" with multiple plugs. Can anyone tell me if there's a possibility this unit is quirky? Can I swap this out with a used one from a junk yard or are the kind of vehicle specific??

Define redneck. Then follow the noise, open the cover on the MALL module and UNPLUG the speaker. Close module cover, enjoy the poor white rural southern US resident fix. If you want to be a Yankee or Canuck about it, find the hood, trunk, or door latch, low fuel or washer fluid level ... or other item which is causing it.

Forgive my ignorance, what is the MALL module. From doing a little research, it looks like the module I am looking at is the body control Module. Second question, how do I know which sensor is causing the problem since there is nothing on the dash that indicates what is causing the warning... as far as what constitutes a "poor white rural southern US resident fix", any fix done without the proper tools, replacement parts or time or full understanding to perform the fix in a manner similar, or equal to that of a certified repairman. :D and just for the record...some of my finest work has been redneck fixes, even though I live in the frozen northern US in Michigan :D

So after a little more googling... looks like the MALL is the same thing as the body control module? Also, I have noticed while looking for replacement module, that they have different 'colors' Mine is yellow, others I see are grey. I am assuming I have to place mine with a similar color module? Thanks again for the help...

I may have called it the wrong thing. On my 99s, its a black plastic box above and ahead of the parking brake pedal. The fuzzy hush panel above the pedals will need to be removed if I recall correctly. You can't miss it, follow the chime sound and you'll find a perforated area in that black box to be the source. Inspect that box closely and you'll find that its a sort of cabinet with plastic tabs that may be carefully released to open the cover where the chime speaker is mounted, behind the perforated area. I think I unplugged the speaker's wire at the circuit board found nearby. My first thought was to snip but there was a plug. Snap the box back together, enjoy.

Mine have the DIC which shows door or trunk open on a graphic of a car, top view. Many things will activate the chime, see owner's manual maybe on yours. Unplugging the chime is the shortest road to sanity preservation, its the very first thing I've done one the three I've had. Just don't leave your headlights on and kill a battery because theres no chime, for example.

Oh and about the redneck thing, its meaning is evolving into a slur like any other. Think about the word, its all about skin color. Before agriculture was industrialized, when it meant farmer... the word shadetree or backyard was used in the context where folks now use redneck. So from time to time I remind people of what they just said. Probably shouldn't but I do. Hopefully I have used sufficient tact in this case. No worries.

ever watch the show ozarks? its pretty good if not, heres a clip of a hillbilly who will kill you if you call him a redneck....

That fellow is right serious, dadgum! Thats another one, fellow. A person who you work or share an interest with. If your fellow man is a redneck or hick, call him a feller. If any of the above call you fella though, BACK away slow then run like hell.

Haven't had TV in many years, I live off westerns from the 30s, can you tell? Durn tootin' lol

in the first clip there at the end the blond walks up, she dont think before she acts at all lol

shes got no tolerance for the redneck deal lol

that other guy never made it off the porch lol this poor guy was a head cartel guy, not someone who can disappear with out being looked for lol

hokay...and now back to our regularly scheduled progra....er ...post...
So after about another week of insanity.... the chiming inexplicably stopped! I did nothing and the dam thing just stopped chiming. The ONLY difference I have noticed is that when I have my after market stereo on bluetooth to stream music, and someone calls my phone, the call does not ring through the speakers... it mutes the music but no ring. Also, the caller me cannot hear me. I hear them, but not the other way (which used to work) Also when using the navigation system on the stereo while listening to music, the music will get muted for directions (turn left blah blah blah...) but I don't hear the voice for the directions....All of these features used to work properly when I installed the stereo about 18 months ago. Don't know if there was a glitch in the stereo, or the wiring harness on the stereo that caused the problem or if this is all coincidental...anyways, there is peace in the cockpit once again! :D Maybe I'll pull the stereo and check wiring once the weather gets warmer..
