Interior Lights:(

ok, so, my interior lights pop the fuse when i install it, if i install a 30 amp they work, but anything less they blow the fuse. my guess is a short somewhere. :th_scratchhead:any tips? Thanks

check all the exposed wires, then pull the bulbs, and with a continuity tester check the sockets for ground on the power, and power on the ground, should show which line it is, then trace back

Do you have a sunroof in your GP? If so, I would start at those controls because there is a little more going on in thet area with switches and wiring. And then maybe the ones that run into the doors. They may have gotten pinched somewhere by the door jamb and be grounding out on you. Just a thought.

alright, correct me if im wrong but in my investigation i just discovered where my vanity mirror bulbs should be there were 1amp fuses, that cant be good. any ideas? thanks again

The bulds actually do look like the round type fuse. Do they light up when you flip them open? If the previous owner put actual fuses in them, I don't think it would cause a problem.

it would be a short, but the fuse should have popped

idk, they look like fuses, theyre all good though. none popped. i did notice today that when i put in a high enogh amp fuse to not pop yet let the lights work, none of the roof lights work (map lights, vanity mirrors, rear lights) however the door lights and feet lights work. Maybe the short is located in the wire that powers the roof? anyone know where that is located?

also i looked behind the sun roof switch, everything looked good.

I believe the wires run up the pillars on the driverside of the windshield and then on to the roof lights. Where they go under the dash, I'm not to sure. My sugestion would be to start at the roof inspecting your wires and then work your way down to under the dash. That way it would be easier to trace them once you get to that point. Just my 2 cents though.

Might be the passenger side then, I can't remember. It's been awhile since I had them apart. Don't see why they would come up by the rear window seeing how all the wiring is under the dash. Still could start up high with the inspection and be able to see what direction the wires are running.

yeah thats true, i gotta look more tomorrow, any thoughts on where the short might be located? i cant figure out how a wire running form the roof to the front could short lol. also, lets say its not a short, what else could it be? Thanks again

Where the location might be is hard to call. There shouldn't be anywhere the wires would rub to create a bare spot and ground itself out. If the wires got too hot for some reason, it could have melted the covering and ground itself. Have to take into account if the previous owner was nosing around and pinched a wire somewhere. Do you know whether there was a aftermarket alarm put on it. The reason I ask is they could have tapped into the wiring for the lights to come on when they disarmed the system and when they took it out, didn't put good protectin on the wires or left them bare and be grounding out that way. There is a ton of things that have could have happened, but the only real way to find out is start at one end(perferably the easiest to get to) and trace the wires to the other end. Looking for any bare spots. A loose connection shouldn't cause a fuse to blow, lights would only work when they wanted to. Let me know what you find.

yeah thats what i was thinking, there isnt an alarm besides the factory one and they only elctrical thing is the gauges on my a pilar, im going to snoop around somemore in the morning and ill report back asap lol. as always, thanks a bunch

GENTLEMAN!!!! PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!!!! I found a short behind the passenger oh sh*t handle, i cleaned it and taped it back up now everything works fine!! thanks a million

Extremly happy to see you found the problem. Who would have thought it would have been in a area like that.

haha yeah, im pumped, you have no idea how much you take lights for granted until they dont work. all night ive been flipping them on and off just because i can haha. Thanks a bunch guys, im sure youll be hearing from me again soon.
