• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Intercooling & pulley down VS stock transmission

See mods in my sig, starting to think about getting a proper custom tune from overkill. However, given the fixed cost of the tune I am considering a mod or 2 before that.

SSIC, ported SC, injectors & maybe a 3.1? (whatever doesn't yield KR)

This is a daily driver for me & I am not overly interested in putting in a new transmission if it blows because of shear power output. Will these mods & extra HP roast this tranny in the not so distant future, where is the breaking point typically? I don't drive the car hard very often & may hit the track once a year.

Options that need to keep the trans together:

1) SSIC, Ported SC, injectors & say 3.1, custom tune (hoping low low 13's)
2) 3.4, custom tune (hoping high 13's)

Do yourself a favor and skip the SSIC BS and go straight to a fullsize. The SSIC isn't worth the money and you will hit a wall with it. That was one of my biggest regrets when I was doing a S/C build. If you have any concern with the trans going out don't even bother modding.

Not necessarily. I swapped a trans with Steve this weekend. He's totally stock L36 and has gone through 8 transmissions. That's how hard he beats on them.

8 transmission..Jesus! I probably would of gave up after the 3rd. Then again Bill isn't available in my neighborhood.

It will be harder to break the trans with a 3.4 setup compared to a 3.1.

That doesn't get to the point, more power obviously equals more chance of destroying all else constant. My point is similar to a well tuned motor. Lets say the limit of the stock internals with a perfect tune is 350whp. After that things start blowing up no matter what you do. Same question for the trans, does the 280whp+ range start breaking it apart no matter what? If the 3.1 I/C setup would be in that neighbourhood then I will opt for the 3.4

Lets assume I drive normally 95% of the time, the other 5% I would be WOT or accelerating hard

Not expecting a perfect answer just a reasonable expectation. With my current basic mods the tranny seems perfectly content.

It depends on how you drive, and how your trans is tuned. I make close to, if not over 400whp on my stock transmission with 165k miles and lots of track passes on slicks.

Was your KR so high that you needed AL104's with a stock pulley?
But yeah... how badly you beat your car will show in your transmission, not how much money you put in the engine.

Take it easy on shift line pressure, keep somewhat of a delay in the shift delay table.

Also, avoid 40mph downshifts into 1st gear and don't install a shift kit.
