I have a 2004 GP GTP Comp G and asked in the wrong forum things that i could do to improve performance and suggestions for maintenance. One of the guys was nice enough to suggest Intake mods, and exhaust mod to get started. Im not going to pretend that i know what im talking about so if anyone would lke to offer some more advice, or have ideas of name brands of parts or could explain the functions of each i would greatly appreciate it:P) ive always wanted a GP and now i have one and want to keep it around for a while and do what i can to maintain it the best.

so you want a CAI?,
if so theres threads on there about makeing your own, its simple and cheap and extremely effectice
just use the search it'll do wounders
 
you dont want a Cai, you want to make a HAI. Just by some 4inch PVC and slap a filter on it. Like this

ok so i work at a used car lot, and when i mentioned messing with the air intake they told me that it would do nothing due to the mass airflow sensor..unless i spent alot of money on adjusting the entire system. Is this true? from the sounds of things it wouldnt take much to adjust so im not sure why they are saying that.
 
im pretty sure they have no idea what they are saying.

You make an intake, that makes it so it can pull in more air and when its all needed unlike the stock intake that restricts the air flow. The MAF sensor reads the amount of air coming in and then with that and other sensor it adjust fuel and yadda yadda for power.

Intakes are good.
 


Right, i understand the benefits but youhave to fill me in on the "whine".. also, the point they are making is that if you bring more air in, in order to utilize it, or fo rit to benefit yo, you have to be able to push the air out...and witthout adjusting the throttle body etc. they are suggesting it will screw the other parts of the engine up that are responsible for adjusting fuel etc..Im not sure if this is true, but id like to know before i start ripping apart my "warranty covered" engine. i already plan on adding a flowmaster exhaust or a cap-back sp? exhaust for sound...but this whoel intake thing is throwing me off...please help!:confused:
 
the intake will not throw off fueling because the car knows to adjust when it seems more air. whoever told you that is dumb.

also dont change your catback exhaust or add flowmasters, your ears will bleed and you will come back on here saying "i changed my mufflers and they are now too loud and I hate it"

flowcrappers = chambered mufflers, you dont want those. FInd some NON chambered mufflers, like magnaflow, borla, slp or any turbo style muffler.
 
flowmaster are horrible..trust me i know, and just stay 3 inch for the pvc for the intake since thats what the maf tube is anyway
 


1. Warranty has nothing to do with your intake.
2. A better filter might only get you 5hp, but it will increase throttle response and, if you're lucky, get you an extra mile per gallon. It's $20 to stap a 9" cone filter on your mass airflow sensor. Do it; it won't hurt anything to do it without a tune, though a tune would increase the benefit from it.
3. Whine is the high pitched noise a supercharger makes, but is muffled by the big honkin stock box intake. It sounds like your car unzipping its pants.
4. You will see increased benefit from exhaust work. Fortunately for you, GM saw fit to give you a cat-back exhaust system with nigh-infinite flow. Well, not really, but you'll never outflow it (unless you turbo). The best thing you can do is to buy $220 Speed Daddy headers from eBay, upgrade the clamps, and install them. Short of that, a 3" catted downpipe from one of the w-body vendors will suffice (the benefit being that it is slightly easier to install than full headers). You do not need exhaust mods at your modification level but you will definitely benefit from it.

Supercharger whine For The Mutha Fuggin Win!

If you want to keep it around a while, check your rocker panels for rust. Remove it now if its there! Do an annual anti-rust treatment. Wash and wax often, don't neglect the body.

Unfortunately for me, the previous owner didn't take care of it, and I didn't know about the rocker panel thing until I jacked it up one day and the jackstand sunk in about 2". :th_doh:
