My 2001 gt started to get hot 1 day so i changed the thermostat and did a radiator flush, oil change ect. Then the car started running good so i took it to the gas station to get gas and ran fine. Then when i was almost home the car died on me but started right back up so i got home and when i pulled into my driveway it started blowing a big cloud of white smoke.I got it into the garage and then died on me and could not get the car started again. So now i started tearing it down to change the upper and lower Intake manifold gaskets and i think i found the problem can the gasket on the lower intake manifold cause this and also my engine is caked with milkshake plz help me fellow gp owners...

Typical lower intake gasket failage.

Go buy the metal replacement gaskets...run some oil down the lifter valley before you toss the LIM on. Once everything is back together...change the oil/filter.

I agree with getting the aluminum lower intake gaskets, definately steer away from the Nylon gaskets.

Since you were blowing clouds of smoke and the car died/stalled out, you may also want to go down to the heads and replace those gaskets.

Head gaskets are almost never bad and add a lot more work. Intake manifold gaskets and composite upper intake manifolds are normal.

If your lower intake manifold was full of a half gallon of coolant/oil mix. Then your UIM burst in teh EGR tube area. You'll want a new manifold or to plug your coolant ports on the LIM and never worry about it again.

If the Lower intake gaskets are bad...coolant will dump into your motor just as much...like ssei said...head gaskets never go bad unless your running a poopton of boost.

lol no boost here its a stock motor i have owned this car since 2003 after my brother passed i took over payments and paid off the car i love it and dont wanna get rid of it. I have heard it is super hard to blow hg in these motors many times im gonna buy the steel gaskets for it...Bill how do you plug in coolants ports on the lim???Thank you guys for all the info its greatly appreciated i may have to ask more when putting it back together lol so bare with me fellas....
