Intake manifold leaking coolant?

Alright, I got the parts today, went felpro on everything. Hopefully I'll get started on it today and finish tomorrow. I'll let y'all know how it goes :)
 


Take your time and don't be a gorilla when taking everything apart. Be methodical and patient and it will come apart fairly easily. Just did mine 2 weeks ago and honestly it wasn't that bad.
 
oh, very important note, make sure you use an inch torque wrench on the bolts, and use the correct weight/sequence. the uim's are very easy to crack and ruin by using to much force.
 
Actually..when you are torquing the UIM... watch the plastic around the bolt. If it starts turning white..that bolt is tight enough.
 
After opening up the intake I saw a lot of oil in there...

And that is after I had soaked some of it up. Is that normal?
 
yes thats normal...at least when the uim was bad lol. just make sure u clean as much of it out as you possibly can. and clean the gasket surface real well.
 


Yes, mine had the same thing. Just remember that beneath those 2 puddles of oil are the last 2 bolts holding down the intake. Vacuum the oil out with a shop vac or something and you will see the bolts.
 
If this hasnt been said already, when you are finished, please drain the oil and run new oil in it and then change it again after 10 min of running with a new filter to insure you got any coolant out.
 
Thanks all! Finished putting replacing all the gaskets and putting everything back together. Hit a few bumps along the way but finally finished! Now to monitor coolant levels and change the oil...
 
congrats. make sure you bleed all that air out of the coolant as well. and a good thing i like to do is put a little sea foam in the oil and run it for about 10-30 minutres before i change the oil. it seems to really help get all the gunk out of there. but dont leave the seafoam in for long as it can be harmful to leave in too long.

Sorry guy.. it's normal for a good running motor without a bad UIM. When the UIM is bad the LIM fills with coolant, not oil. Oil is normal because the PCV dumps into the UIM/LIM via the tube in the UIM that is held in by the gasket frame. This allows oil vapor etc which contains enough oil over time to puddle.
 


Because the PCV vents into teh manifold, you will end up with some oil in the vapor. This is why on some other platforms you'll see guys putting on an oil catch can. That can keeps the oil from going back into the intake.
