Intake manifold and VC gaskets...

Curious how difficult it is to replace these, the last car i did this to was a 79 cutlass, much more room and less extras to remove to get to it, it looks easy enough but looks can be deceiving.Replacing because i have a small oil leak, i can smell it buring and see it on the front exhaust manifold and have small drips on garage floor at the rear of the engine. Any help and or advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Not to be a dickwad...but would you mind telling us which of the two 3.8's you have?

We are making progress. Really :th_peaceout:

Its just a GT so id have to guess the 3.8NA if the 3.8sc is supercharged...im sure i seem pretty dumb at this point but this is all new to me sorry bare with me im making progress

No worries man..

The LIM gaskets are relatively easy, the valve covers are also pretty easy. When you do the swap, being NA, I would suggest putting a new UIM on as well. This is because they tend to crack over a lot of heat cycles in the EGR area. This allows cooalnt into the intake and it hydrolocks the motor.

LIM and UIM sorry im assumeing here is lower and upper....and the upper again i assume is the black section on top of the cast intake. Sorry not trying to be difficult just want to be sure i get everything i need before i get into it. Thanks again!

When he does the UIM he can use the metal UIM in place of the plastic one. Basically so he won't have the issues again. Unless you are going to top swap it.

**EDIT** I should have told you it is more work than just buying a new plastic one but if it were me and you are going to keep the car for a while I would do it. But that is just me.

Ok i understand all this now and yes i would like to replace the plastic UIM, now my question is where is the best place to get a metal UIM? Napa, Autozone....

you cant use the metal one unless you bore out the EGR inlet to fit the EGR stove pipe on the L36 LIM. just get a replacement plastic one from your local auto parts store and be done with it.
