Intake Gasket Replacement

Noticed a little puddle of coolant on my intake of my 2000 supercharged Grand Prix. Decided to tear it down. Noticed the base gasket for the supercharger was probably leaking coolant. I'm going to upgrade the lower intake gaskets also. I have part numbers for the aluminum based gasket from 89017816 to x23-104-B6 to 89017825. The 89017825 is in stock locally, so I'm going to check it out today. Wondering if there is an aluminum supercharger base gasket also?

Nope, Nothing available. Just get the regular fel-pro's. There like 8.99 a peice I think? It also would not hurt to use a little rtv around the base of the s/c and LIM but it is not a must. Also replace the coolant o-rings they are cheap. Don't try to reuse them.

I aready bought the FEL-PRO's. The supercharger gasket has the yellow O-rings in the package with it. Good to know that nothing better is available, so I'll use that. The 89017825 the base I'd want? I've been digging around and found three different part #'s for this improvement.

89017824 are the ones you want. Thanks Brian (reptile) for the number.

the stock ones are better than the "genV gaskets" that are made out of that garlock crap. yeah, you can reuse them but they suck all kinds of ass to seal.

The plastic ones are better than the aluminum I just bought?:th_scratchhead:

Is that the part number for the plastic ones? i'm sorry. The aluminum ones are the better ones. So i'm guessing that was the difference.

i was talking about the supercharger gasket.

the alumium lower intake gaskets (that are grey/sea foam green and not black/orange) are the better ones.

Okay, they sold me the 89017825 and they look right. Not to be a PITA, but what's the difference? The 824 not pinned?:th_scratchhead:

As far as pinned vs not pinned, some of the 97 and older blocks didn't have holes for locating pins for the end gaskets. The pinned gaskets will still work fine, though, as there's just nothing in that area so they just hang there. As long as you got the aluminum framed gaskets, you should be fine.

I've actully had a very good experiance with the GEN 5 S/C gaskets. There made better than the garlocks. I'm pleased with mine so far

Garlocks just suck ass period. No gasket is better than a damn garlock.

And...

Aluminum L32 LIM gaskets for the FTMFW!

Here's a picture of the aluminum gaskets:

Exactly what I put in. Just finished everything up today. Had to jack the pass side of the car up to bleed off the antifreeze through the thermostat housing bleeder. Oh yea, I wish I'd known it's easier to get the filter off through the wheel opening. I changed the oil in the supergharger. Who designed those crappy plastic coolant tubes anyway. I know my way around in there now. Hopefully everything stays nice and dryoutside the block.
