Installing New Radio

so I bought a pioneer 700 double din I have an 05 gtp with the monsoon system now I need to buy the wiring harness for my pioneer the question I have is which harness do I need to buy? Ive heard the gmos 04. NOTE though that I am running all new speaker wire and a different amp I WILL NOT be using the monsoon amp so will a gmos 01 work ?

just go with the gmos 04 to be safe. with this one at least you know you retain 100% the door chimes and the ability to use onstar.

The one I've been using for the past 4-5 years is from peripheral electronics it does maintain Monsoon, but doesn't maintain onstar or the door chimes. Perfect module for me I hate annoying door chimes and I don't use Onstar but looks like they sold the company.

Gmos01 will work if your not using the factory amp and your running all new speaker wire...

You really don't even need the Gmos01 because you can hook the red accessory wire from your new radio to a thick gauge yellow wire in the passenger side fuse box. It will act exactly the same as the original RAP circuit that a Gmos01/04 would provide.

Don't use the Metra/Schoche/PAC modules you will have communication errors. I really wouldn't even bother wasting your money on any module.

Don't mess around with a setup that loses your chimes & warnings. If there's an accident, you could void your insurance.

Lol or you can say it worked before the accident and now it doesn't I honestly was told u don't need Ur onstar which I don't use and really all you need is the power ground remote switch and that's all since ill be running my own speaker wire to am aftermarket amp

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

OK, just try calling your insurance agent and talk about disabling any of the safety features your car came with. See what he says.

Maybe you know all the technical details of the GM data bus, or maybe they will be scraping your remains off the dash when your airbags don't deploy.

But that's okay with me, you've convinced me how much you know about GP's.

Noob.

Disabling your chime does not effect your safety you, it's called a convenience indicator.. I can see it now..."I fell out of my car because I didn't hear the chime telling me the door was open"..

And btw changing your radio doesn't have anything to do with your SIR.

I think it's a pretty idea to keep your mouth shut when you have no idea Wth your talking about.

I would like to add, the modules used for an aftermarket radio that communicate on the data line DO cause communication issues and that IS a safety issue when all your gauges drop to nothing while driving. I tell every customer up front they can cause issues and the only adverse effects are no chime and sometimes you lose RAP function. Vehicles with the monsoon or bose are the only ones that you have to use it unless your planning on rewiring the whole car or bypassing the amp.

If you bypass the monsoon amp and rewire the speakers you can run the cheap harness. I did it in my black 04. I have the GMOS-04 in my silver 04 because I'm still running the monsoon amp. I have also used the GMOS-01 it does the same thing as the cheap harness but it retains the chimes and onstar.

I'll make you feel silly :p... Only the 04 you can use the cheap harness with one that has a monsoon.. They call for a gmos04 but the amp turns on anyways without the gmos04, no reason to bypass it either. I found this out a few years ago on my old 04. Still works on my 04compG as well and actually sounds alot better than the stock head unit.
