installed headers need help

Hey guys. I just installed speed daddy headers and I had a couple questions. When I finished the service engine soon light came on. I'm wondering what the possible causes are. I had to make my own o2 extension so that might be it? And also when I step on it a little bit it gets a lot louder than normal. And it kind of makes a fast paced tickin noise. The more gs applied the louder it gets. I'm pretty sure its not the o2.

The ticking sound tells me you have an exhaust leak which could be part of the reason you have a code. I would reccomend purchasing a premade extension so you KNOW that isn't the problem.

If anything got on the sensor whilei it was out, it could be bad.

Ticking is an exhaust leak.

You prolly spliced the wires wrong...get the code pulled so we know what it is

You can drive it, it just might run like crap. I wouln't get on it hard just incase its something not exhaust related.

Isn't the extension only a two wire deal?

Did you keep the stock SD header flex, or upgrade to an interlocked version?

Is the "louder" you refer to only the ticking, or general exhaust volume?

Regarding the SES, are you running a cat?

I'm not sure about the wire thing. It looks like a 2 wire. But I'm pretty sure it the stock flex. I already had a 3" catless dp with slp catbck. So I had to get the 2 code deletes with the pcm.

So the 2 codes were for low input on the map sensor, and throttle petal sensor. I don't remember what the actual codes were but I can have them later.

If you wiggled it or did anything to the map sensor like I did with the header install it would plug all the way back in anymore.. Ended up replacing the plug all together. Think it was 20bucks at the dealership... Also, I hope you didn't use the clamps that came with the headers... If you did I would go to your local auto parts store and get band clamps, I would also suggest copper rtv...

Come to think of it I might have broke it taking out the rear manifold. So ill probably just replace it. But I did use the band clamps and rtv. So that takes care of the first code..... hopefully. Than for the exhaust leak. Do you think I could possibly take it to an exhaust shop and pay them to fix it?

get rid of your EGR.. thats the only thing that leaked on mine and a bunch of other ppl on here.. its easy to do.

You likely are hearing the standard single wall flex tick. Many come across this when they first put on headers. Try wrapping the flex with some header wrap and see if that solves the tick. If so.. you know the issue is just a think flex.

ive heard alot of ppl say the flex is to blame, especially on SD's. im going on 2 years with mine and my flex has held up fine.

I'm not saying they don't hold up. My SLP's held up well too. The f'n tick though was nearly enough to make me want to yank them off. A bit of header wrap and they were able to stay on and the car got modded further.

Afterall it was a "quiet and reserved" Bonneville. A car of luxury, class and too many horses.
