• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

saw this on my hood... happened to have camera in my hand cuz i was goin to take pics of halos for a member on here.... i tried to get to video but the mantis was moving in for the kill already... so i just got a pic. he jumped on the fly like a cheetah on a baby zebra... really cool to see in person especially when u dont really see preying mantis' anymore.

thats what i thought when i saw it... i had to fumble with camera and just got the pic before he attacked. he was literally taking slow steps to the fly like a cat when i noticed it.... then rushed the fly when he got a few inches away. i let him have his meal.... moved him to a tree afterwards :)

My neighbor keeps one in her kitchen window to catch all the fruit flies that seem to be thick around here. No way I'd do it though!

Sweet pic!

BUT FYI, to anyone looking to keep one as a pet make sure they aren't pregnant. I had one my mother in-law gave me and i kept it in an aquarium and fed it daily with crickets and such. It laid a nest of eggs inside the aquarium and i did some research on what to do etc. I sealed off everything in the aquarium, or so i had thought. I came home from school one day last year and i had probably 500 half inch praying mantii all strung across my room. It was ridiculous. I had to spray and kill em all and didn't sleep in my room for days. Absolute horror story. But they are fun to keep, especially throwing in some crickets and watch them pick em limb from limb.

See if they eat any unusual bug combinations or throw up in the morning. Ask them if their feet or back hurt.
