Inner cv?

For the last day or so when I accelerate from a stop, the engine revs but the car doesn't really move, atleast not like it should. It's usually after a cold start but I have been trying not to drive like this until I know whats wrong. I had been putting off replacing my rotors so I figured today I would do it and look around a bit.

When I did the passenger side I noticed grease under the inner cv boot. I couldn't find any cracks/tears in it but regardless that is my suspicion.

I've had the outter cv joint break on previous cars and it made a very distinct popping noise which I am not hearing now. So I guess I'm asking, would an inner cv joint failing cause this sluggish accelleration/engine rev? Or maybe my transmission is slipping? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

02 grandprix 3.8L with about 85k miles if thats helpful.

If you can wiggle your axles, the CV is shot.

What you describe to me doesn't sound at all like a CV, it sounds like your transmission is slipping. What does your ATf look like?

Sounds like you have a transmission issue. Not likely a inner cv joint.
Eh ****, was hoping that wasn't the case.
I've had it about a year never changed the fluid. Guess that's on the to do list for tomorrow.
Time to read up in the tranny forum.
Thanks guys

Just a crazy idea on my part here, but what if you tried putting the trans manually into 1st gear and see if it slips, if it does not, then just maybe you have a slipping forward band.

I'm thinking kinda outta the box here.
