• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Inlay

I ordered reflective inlay to install after I paint the rear lower bumper, is it OK to clear over the inlay? I think it might affect the reflective properties or hurt the plastic?

You should be ok. Theres lots of guys that lay down decals on the hood or sides then clear over them and I have yet to see a problem. As for the reflective properties, as long as you don't tint the clear it should work. Light will be able to pass thru just fine. If you have a piece of extra, try laying a few coats of clear and test it first to be sure.

I would never clear over a sticker. The clear might not adhere properly, then you have to refinish the whole bumper.

I know a guy with a Trans-Am that has the screaming chicken on the hood. Cleared over it last summer and no problems yet.

Not trying to jack the thread, but someone else on there painted the "rear lower bumper" (forgot the proper name) he used rattle can. I'm thinking of doing the same, what type of paint are you going to be using (re: Brand, rattle can, spray gun)?? thanks

If it's rattle can the best I've seen is Krylon. A guy I work with did the plastic on his Avalanche and it looks great.

I did the front this afternoon from the dark grey to flat black and it looks pretty good I used the Krylon Fusion black and regular flat clear. I just sanded it a little and cleaned it before painting. 3 coats black 3 coats clear.

There are several threads about it, everyone doing it a little differently with great results.

i wouldnt clear the stickers, unless u plan on clearing the whole rear fascia. its gonna look bad having some random clear coat painted over one portion of the bumper

Check with Reflective Concepts (assuming that is who you got it from) They are on the forums here.

I wouldn't paint over any kind of sticker. If you ever decided to take them off, etc it will be hard to take them off and mess up the finish.

I decided not to clear and went ahead and painted the front and back fascias. I will install the inlay when it arrives.
