In the market for new car....help me!!!

So I am looking for a new car and have narrowed it down to 3 choices and I need some opinions.

98-03 grand prix GT ( Probably with a mild build if i go w the grand prix again (topswap, rockers, pulley drop... yada yada yada))
04+ Grand prix GTP ( because I have a topswap for the series 2 not the series 3) probably keep close to stock
Or
A cobalt ss. Still debating on super or turbo. My thoughts are if im going to spend this kind of money..might as well just spend a little more and get a turbocharged ss. Insureance is gonna kill i bet lol.

What your thoughts?

04+ gtp's r great cars. they haul @$$. 260hp just like the turbo cobalt ss, but will be a tad slower since its heavier. i would go with the gtp though you can still mod it, and the cobalts are small...they dont offer much protection in a crash.

personally.

I'd go with the GTP, dealing with top swaps can be a pain.

A GXP is nice and all, but buy it to just cruise in it and have a little fun, because remember its still a 4T65e with a V8 behind it now.

And the GP is cheaper and less on insurance.

Not entirely true. There have been a few on here that know first hand what a balt can take in a wreck. A lot depends on what hits you, at what speed, location on the car impacted, etc... Too many variables. Heck, I've seen some GP's wrecked where people got hurt.

I would have to know what your budget is for this, but I'd say the GTP based on cost of ownership, insurance, etc.. Less payments vs. the balt, but then you have an 8 yr. old car vs. a new one.

still thinking cobalt.

Then the Idea for a turbo setup came to me. Get a nice 04 GT with a turbo setup, and it would still be cheaper then a cobalt ss

depends on how much the turbo balt is going for.
tune, intake and exhaust in that car will do quite a bit for speed while being pretty reliable.
dont buy a gxp...really? v8 fwd? terrible idea from the getgo, and while being somewhat sporty a properly tuned 3.5 pulley 04+ will get you the same power.

budget is around 8-9k and I know thats a little low for a 08 cobalt ss w turbo. but i think i can get a stupercharged ss in that range.

Does this next car need to be a family car? With 8/9k to play with, I'm not sure why a Grand Prix is even on the menu otherwise, to be honest.

Lots of wrong information in here...I'll set it straight. Cobalt's are a great value, they are VERY safe, get awesome MPG's...and parts are decently cheap and the Ecotec has a HUGE aftermarket...which is where ZZP went to after the 3800 community started dying a few years ago. I loved my '07, and my '10 is a great car as well. If you're willing to sacrifice boost, the fully decked out LT, LS, or Sport "SS" cars can be had in your price range, probably with the factory warranty still in tact as well. 100k miles warranties are awesome...you don't get that in a Grand Prix...do ya? So lets continue...

the turbo cobalts were a couple tenths of a second 0-60 faster than the supercharged ones

Quite faster than a couple tenths, a turbo car will eat up a supercharged car like no ones business. They are also better in the corners, better on gas, stop better, ride better, the interior has better seats...not to mention with just a tune these cars are making close to 300~WHP.

Not just a tad, try about a full second or more slower in the quarter mile, the LNF is no punk compared to a L32 car. Also, I hit a Silverado @ about 55~ MPH...T-Boned it. He pulled out in front of my '07 LT Sedan. I survived, so did my girl. The Cobalt's are VERY safe cars, probably more safe than a WBody, I'd venture to bet.

Reliability, muh friend. Ecotec's, especially in the Ion/Cobalt platform...go forever. Only thing is, the rods in the L61/LAP like to take a solid sh1t over 300 FWHP...the LSJ/LNF can hold quite a bit of power though.

Kia Forte Koupe

LOL!

could be RWD, Im debating about keeping my '97 GT.

Keep it as a winter beater...yes.

OK...The ss cobalt is out of the picture...they want 450/month with full coverage and a clean record lol. So I'm throwing the idea around of a clean 00-02 coupe and throwing a turbo at it with a VS Cam and maybe....just maybe intercool it. IDK yet.
